About Royal Coachman
Royal Coachman Fine Dining is a long-established, family-run restaurant and event venue in Napanee, Ontario. Alongside full-service dining and our garden wedding-and-events space, we run a popular weekly Take-Home Meals program — fresh meals prepared in-house and delivered across the Napanee and Kingston areas — and we are a proud approved supplier of the Veterans Independence Meal Program.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Owner/General Manager, the Marketing Specialist owns the marketing function for Royal Coachman and provides general business-administration support to the owner. This is a senior individual-contributor role: there is no marketing department to inherit and no team to delegate to, so the person in this position both sets the direction and produces the work.
The business effectively operates three related brands — the restaurant, the weekly Take-Home Meals program, and its role as an approved Veterans Independence Meal Program supplier. Each speaks to a different audience and needs its own consistent voice and visual treatment while still reading as one business. Holding that together is a central part of the job.
The work runs on a firm weekly rhythm anchored to the Tuesday order deadline and Thursday fulfillment, layered over longer-range seasonal and holiday campaign planning. The successful candidate will be trusted to manage the marketing budget, set the calendar, and make day-to-day creative and channel decisions without close supervision.
Who Can Apply
This is a full-time position supported by the Government of Canada's NRC IRAP Youth Employment Program. To be eligible, you must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the contract;
- Be a post-secondary graduate (university, college, CEGEP, or post-secondary institute of technology);
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee status in Canada;
- Be legally entitled to work in Ontario;
- Be a first-time participant in a Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) work-experience program for post-secondary graduates.
This is a hybrid position. Food photography, kitchen and menu content, in-person coordination with the owner and kitchen team, and community events all take place on-site in Napanee. Design, web and email production, campaign planning, reporting and vendor coordination can be done remotely.
Key Responsibilities & DutiesA. Brand & Creative Direction
- Own brand standards across all three lines of business, and keep voice, typography, colour and photography consistent from the menu flyer to the website to a Facebook post.
- Design and produce marketing materials for print and digital — menu flyers, posters, order-form inserts, in-restaurant signage, vehicle and event signage.
- Photograph menu items each cycle, and produce short-form video content for social and web use.
- Maintain an organized, accessible library of brand assets, photography, video and templates.
B. Digital Marketing & Social Media
- Plan, produce and schedule content across the business's social channels, managing pages and paid placements through Meta Business Suite and equivalent tools.
- Maintain a rolling content calendar aligned to the weekly cycle — promoting the menu early in the week, reinforcing the Tuesday 7:00 p.m. order cut-off, and following up around Thursday pickup and delivery.
- Plan and place local paid advertising — boosted posts, local search, community newsletters and print — and report on what each channel returns.
- Monitor comments, direct messages and online reviews; respond in the voice of the business and escalate service or quality concerns to the owner.
C. Website, Online Ordering & E-Commerce
- Own the website end to end:
menus, pricing, delivery areas and fees, pickup hours, seasonal messaging and contact details.
- Lead the setup and ongoing operation of online ordering — build out menu items and pricing each cycle, configure delivery zones, test the customer flow before it goes live, and resolve issues as they arise.
- Keep the Google Business Profile and other online listings and map entries accurate and current.
- Apply practical local SEO so the business surfaces for searches such as prepared meals in Napanee or meal delivery in Kingston.
- Act as the point of contact for any external web developer, ordering platform or hosting provider.
D. Email, Retention & Customer Data
- Build and maintain the customer contact list with proper consent and record-keeping, in line with Canadian anti-spam requirements (CASL).
- Produce and send the recurring menu email or text announcing the current meal choices and the order deadline.
- Maintain customer records — order history, delivery neighbourhood, dietary preferences and notes — in a spreadsheet or CRM tool.
- Identify lapsed customers and run win-back, referral and loyalty campaigns to bring them back into the weekly cycle.
E. Community, Partnerships & Events
- Lead marketing and outreach for the Veterans Independence Meal Program, and maintain relationships with referral sources such as legions, seniors' residences, home-care coordinators and community organizations.
- Develop local partnerships and sponsorship opportunities across Napanee, Kingston and the surrounding delivery communities.
- Plan and represent the business at local markets, fairs and community events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
F. Budget, Planning & Reporting
- Manage the marketing budget: allocate spend across channels, obtain quotes, manage print and promotional vendors, and keep campaigns on schedule and on budget.
- Build the seasonal and holiday campaign calendar well ahead of the dates it runs.
- Track weekly order volume, new versus returning customers, orders by delivery zone, and the performance of individual campaigns and menu items.
- Provide the owner with a concise monthly summary of results, spend, what worked, and recommendations for the next period.
G. Business Administration
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to the owner/manager, and help keep the office, its records and its schedule organized.
- Handle supplier and customer correspondence by phone, email and in person; follow up on outstanding items; and help track and order office and marketing supplies.
- Maintain orderly digital and paper files — customer records, supplier information, contracts and program documentation — following good privacy practices.
- Prepare routine reports, summaries and documents for the owner as requested, including material for the Veterans Independence Meal Program supplier requirements, and assist with administrative tasks as day-to-day priorities change.
H. Additional Duties
- Take on other marketing and communications work as priorities change, and assist across the business during peak periods and holidays.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in advertising, marketing communications, business or a related field.
- Two or more years of progressive marketing experience, including time at a coordinator,
specialist or manager level with responsibility for campaigns from concept through delivery.
- Demonstrated experience managing more than one brand or product line at the same time.
- Experience owning or overseeing a marketing budget.
- A portfolio of work — design, social campaigns, video, web or print — is required.
- Background in food service, hospitality, retail or another consumer-facing business is an asset.
Technical Skills
- Design: Adobe Creative Suite and Canva Pro, or equivalent.
- Web: WordPress or a comparable content management system, including page edits, plugins and basic troubleshooting.
- Social: Meta Business Suite and other major platform tools, including paid placement.
- Video & photography: Final Cut Pro, Premiere or equivalent; comfortable shooting food and short-form video.
- Productivity: Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
- Assets, not requirements: email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, e-commerce or online ordering platforms, Google Analytics and local SEO. Training and time to learn these will be provided.
Attributes
- Reliable against a firm recurring deadline — the menu has to go out every week, on time.
- Comfortable working independently, setting priorities and making decisions without a marketing team to fall back on.
- Proven ability to stay productive and reachable on remote days, and to keep the owner informed without needing to be prompted.
- Strong, error-free writing suited to both a fine-dining restaurant and a practical weekly meal service.
- Professional judgment in handling customer information, complaints and public reviews.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and access to a vehicle (events, photography, vendor pickups).
What Success Looks Like
In the first year, we would expect to see:
- Sustained growth reservation and walk-in clientele, increased weekly Take-Home Meals orders, also with an increasing share coming from repeat customers.
- The menu and order reminder going out on time, every cycle, across every channel.
- A website and online ordering system accurate and easy enough that customers can find the current menu, the deadline and their delivery area without calling.
- One coherent brand across the restaurant, the meal program and the Veterans program.
- A clear monthly picture for the owner of what marketing costs and what it returns.
- The office running smoothly — records current, correspondence handled promptly, and the owner freed from day-to-day administration.
Compensation, Terms & Conditions
- Wage: $25.00 per hour at 35 hours per week
- Term: Full-time, permanent, following a 3 [three]-month initial review period.
- Work arrangement: Hybrid. Typically 3 [three] days on-site at 8087 County Road 2, Napanee, and 2 [two] days remote each week. In office days are normally scheduled around the Tuesday order deadline and Thursday fulfillment, and are set by agreement between the employee and the owner.
- On-site requirements: Menu and food photography, video shot in or around the kitchen, in-person planning with the owner and kitchen team, and community events must take place on-site. Additional on-site days may be needed during holiday periods, major campaigns and events.
- Hours: Standard week is 35 hours. Occasional evening and weekend work is required for community events, seasonal campaigns and peak periods, and is scheduled in advance wherever possible.
