The logistics coordinator (land) supports the planning and coordination of port operational activities specific to traffic management within VFPA’s jurisdiction during container terminal day and night gates. Other key responsibilities include information gathering and interpretation, anticipating emerging issues, taking or recommending proactive action and alerting the operations coordinator on shift to emerging security issues. Depending on operational needs, the logistics coordinator, Land provides assistance in the VFPA Operations Centers dictated by container terminal operations.

What success looks like

- Coordinates port truck staging operations to ensure fluidity on the port roads and the roads leading up to the port
- Works with a variety of technical CCTV and other monitoring systems typical in an Operations Centre environment.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with VFPA security patrollers.




- Escalates emerging security issues per the established chain of command.
- Supports the planning and coordination of port operations activities in conformity with port practices and procedures, adopting a holistic approach which encompasses aspects of safety and security and environmental protection.
- Coordinates communication with internal and external customers on the phone and in writing in response to operational issues. Processes and prioritizes calls depending on operational requirements.
- Uses Twitter, GPS Dashboard, DMS Boards and Port App to communicate access and incident messages.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with stakeholders and customers.
- Produces reports, updates and disseminates information as required.
- Gathers and interprets operational intelligence, anticipating emerging issues and taking or recommending proactive action.
- Performs other assigned duties as required.

What you bring:

High school graduate with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in operations and/or logistics along with experience in security, safety and emergency incidents and issues. Experience with truck staging is required. Must be able to perform analysis of operational data and have good problem solving skills. Must be able to work under pressure and demonstrate the ability to use good judgment, make decisions, show initiative and take responsibility for situations when required. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external contacts. A customer service, results orientated approach.

Salary: The starting rate for this position is $48.54 per hour, with scheduled wage progression in accordance with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 517 collective agreement. Based on a 37.5 hour work week.

Job type: Bargaining Unit, Full-Time, Casual

Working environment: Occasional outdoor exposure to a terminal operations environment.

- This position is required to provide scheduled vacation and time-off coverage for both of the following positions:

Logistics Coordinator, Land – Evenings: Monday to Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm; and

Land Logistics Traffic Coordinator: Tuesday to Saturday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
