Scope of Practice:

The Consultant Dietitian will act as the nutrition specialist in meeting the nutritional needs of the resident population at Rosedale Home for Special Care to help improve quality of life, the overall dining experience, and provide clinical assessments.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

- Develop, review and refine nutrition screening tools.
- Complete nutritional assessments (including feeding assessments when appropriate) and care plans for each resident.
- Care plans may include detailed strategies and interventions for specific residents, calculation of nutrient needs and intake, assessing and monitoring eating habits, feeding abilities, weight changes, hydration therapy and biochemical data.
- Determining likes/dislikes of residents and adapting these to the facility’s menu to ensure nutritional adequacy within available resources.
- Recommendation of supplements.
- Ongoing evaluation and follow‑up of the effectiveness of nutrition intervention.
- Attend interdisciplinary care meetings and provide input into team discussions and decisions.
- Assist with the development of nutritional policies, procedures, and staff training sessions.
- Enhance and encourage the involvement of nursing staff in nutritional care and mealtime supervision (maintaining intake, digestion and hydration).

Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:

Menu





- Menu adjustments for the therapeutic and texture modifications of residents (recommending specialty food items when necessary-i.e. pureed, diabetic, sodium free, etc.)
- Approval of menu changes and review of all changes in the menu with cooperation from the Director of Nutrition and Journeyman Cook.
- Approve the 4-week rotational menu for fall/winter and spring/summer.

Policies, Procedures, and Quality Improvement

- Review and develop policies and procedures for the Nutrition department as applicable.
- Review and provide input regarding corrective action plans.

3. Promote a social dining atmosphere.

- Promote protected and sanitary working conditions and ensure high standards of food safety

Education

1. Provide nutrition education for residents, families and staff on issues related to the nutritional wellbeing of the residents.

Qualifications

- Completion of an approved dietetic internship program.
- Membership in the Canadian Dietetic Association and the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association.
- Ability to work in harmony as an interdisciplinary team member.
- Experience in long-term care is considered an asset.

Pay: $50.00 per hour
