The City of Prince Rupert is looking for a energetic and dedicated individual to join our operations team as a
Skate Patroller.

The Recreation and Community Services department strategic priorities are:

policies and procedures that supports physical literacy, sport, arts/culture

and recreation.

This position is seasonal, for the period of September till March. Reporting directly to the Recreation
Coordinator, the Skate Patroller are reliable, energetic, self-motivated individuals, who strive to deliver
exceptional customer service while ensuring the safety of all participants involved in our skating programs.
The successful candidate must effectively communicate with the public and possess good conflict and
risk management skills

What you’ll do

- Supervise ice arena and all patrons during Public Skating times to ensure a fun but safe recreational

experience
- Enforce ice safety rules
- Enforce facility guidelines consistently.
- Engage with patrons in a positive manor, provide skating tips, and support skate skills/games
- Perform first aid, when required.
- Report incidents accurately and ensure first aid/incident forms are complete.
- Complete light maintenance duties as assigned.
- Set up and take down equipment for skating programs.
- Assist Ice Maker with skate rentals.
- Assist with cashier duties, when required.
- Mediate any conflicts that may arise between patrons.
- Attend staff training sessions and courses as required.
- Complete any additional related tasks assigned by the Recreation Coordinator.
- Other duties as assigned.





Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Proficient ice skater
- Standard First Aid, CPR-C, AED
- Ability to plan and coordinate age-appropriate activities for children, adapting activities to different skill

levels as required.

- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow safe work practices and procedures.

What you’re willing to achieve or already have

- Minimum Education: Currently enrolled and/or returning secondary school student (16 years old

minimum)
- Standard First Aid, CPR-C, AED (willing to take)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment

Asset Qualification or Experience

- 16 years of age

Other information that you should know

- If you are not a local applicant, you must be prepared to relocate to Prince Rupert, BC before

starting work.

- You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

- You will be required to provide a current clear Police Information Check with vulnerable sector

FITNESS REQUIREMENT:

- Perform tasks and manage energy levels effectively throughout the shift
- Lift/carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to have cardiovascular and muscular endurance to ice skate for up to two hours
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and urgent situations
