Location: Brampton, Ontario
Industry: Specialty Vehicle / Manufacturing
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Production Planning & Scheduling Manager to manage and maintain our manufacturing production schedule.
This is not simply an administrative scheduling position. The successful candidate must have strong, hands-on knowledge of manufacturing operations and understand how production flows through fabrication, assembly, electrical/mechanical installation, paint/body, final assembly and inspection.
The individual will be responsible for developing and maintaining a realistic production schedule, monitoring progress on the manufacturing floor, identifying bottlenecks and ensuring departments are aligned with production priorities and delivery requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage and continuously update the master production schedule
- Coordinate production requirements across multiple departments and work centres
- Monitor the progress of units throughout the manufacturing process
- Work directly with Production Supervisors and department leads to ensure schedules are achievable
- Identify production bottlenecks, material shortages, labour constraints and other risks before they impact delivery
- Coordinate with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Sales and Management
- Review labour and production capacity when establishing schedules
- Adjust schedules based on changing priorities, material availability and production conditions
- Provide management with accurate production status and projected completion dates
- Participate in production meetings and communicate priorities to the appropriate departments
- Help improve production planning, scheduling and workflow processes
- Ensure production commitments are based on actual manufacturing capacity and available resources
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of production planning, scheduling or production management experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production workflow
- Experience with custom or low-volume manufacturing is highly preferred
- Experience in specialty vehicles, truck bodies, heavy equipment, automotive, buses, trailers or similar manufacturing would be considered a strong asset
- Strong understanding of capacity planning, labour loading, material requirements and production bottlenecks
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems
- Strong Excel and reporting skills
- Ability to read and understand production drawings, work orders and bills of material
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and communication skills
- Comfortable spending significant time on the production floor, not just working from an office
- Able to work in a rapid-paced manufacturing environment where priorities can change
What We're Looking For;
We are looking for someone who understands how things are actually built.
The right candidate will be able to walk the production floor, understand the status of a job, recognize what is holding production up and determine how that delay affects the overall manufacturing schedule.
This position requires someone who can combine manufacturing knowledge, planning and accountability to keep production moving and provide management with reliable information on where every unit stands.
