About Us
Governed by an active Board of Directors, the Calnash Ag Event Centre is a premier agricultural and event facility located in Ponoka, Alberta. Our 60,000+ sq. ft. venue features a 130' x 240' indoor arena, a 110' x 140' warm-up pen, seating for 600 spectators, over 280 horse stalls, outdoor arenas, banquet and meeting spaces, and covered livestock handling facilities.
Since opening in 2012, Calnash Ag Event Centre has earned a reputation as one of Western Canada's leading event venues, hosting rodeos, equine competitions, banquets, trade shows, community events, corporate functions, and agricultural exhibitions.
The Opportunity
Calnash Ag Event Centre is seeking energetic, customer-focused Bartenders to join our casual event team. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Successful candidates must be dependable, professional, and able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours based on event schedules. Bartenders play a key role in ensuring guests have a secure, enjoyable, and memorable experience while maintaining compliance with all liquor service regulations.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Business Manager, the Bartender is responsible for the setup, operation, and closing of bar services during events hosted at Calnash Ag Event Centre. Responsibilities include beverage service, cash handling, maintaining liquor inventory, ensuring compliance with AGLC regulations, and providing excellent customer service to guests and event organizers.
Duties and responsibilities may be amended from time to time at the sole discretion of the employer, subject to formal notification.
Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Provide exceptional customer service to all guests and event attendees.
- Welcome guests in a professional and friendly manner.
- Take beverage orders accurately and efficiently.
- Respond to guest inquiries regarding products, pricing, and venue services.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and escalate issues when required.
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout events.
- Collaborate with event staff to ensure a positive guest experience.
Bar Operations
- Set up and tear down bar stations before and after events.
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to established standards.
- Verify guest identification and ensure responsible liquor service practices.
- Monitor guest consumption and refuse service when necessary in accordance with AGLC regulations.
- Process cash, debit, and credit card transactions accurately.
- Restock bar inventory and supplies during events.
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked bar areas.
- Assist with beverage inventory counts and receiving product deliveries.
Event Support
- Assist with event setup and teardown as required.
- Support banquet and hospitality operations during large events.
- Work closely with event organizers and venue staff to meet event requirements.
- Ensure bar operations are ready and functioning throughout the duration of events.
- Assist with furniture, equipment, and beverage service setup when required.
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards within all bar and service areas.
- Wash glassware and bar equipment.
- Dispose of garbage and recycling throughout events.
- Clean and organize storage, coolers, and workspaces.
- Report equipment malfunctions, damages,
or safety concerns promptly.
- Assist with post-event cleaning duties.
Risk & Safety
- Adhere to all Calnash Ag Event Centre policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with AGLC liquor laws and regulations.
- Follow responsible liquor service practices at all times.
- Maintain a "See Something, Say Something" approach to safety and security.
- Report incidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Support a safe environment for guests, staff, and volunteers.

Required Qualifications
- ProServe Certification (required).
- Previous bartending, serving, or hospitality experience preferred.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Experience handling cash and point-of-sale systems is an asset.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Reliable transportation to and from the facility.
- First Aid certification is considered an asset.
- Ability to work around animals and livestock while understanding basic animal behaviour.
