AS400 / IBM i Operations Specialist

Role supports daily system operations, batch processing, and production monitoring.

Responsibilities

System & Batch Monitoring

· Monitor and manage daily and after hours as required batch jobs

· Ensure all scheduled jobs complete successfully

· Identify and resolve job failures and system errors

· Manage job queues and prevent backlogs

· Monitor QSYSOPR and system message queues

Production Monitoring & Alert Management

· Monitor and respond to alerts using Robot Alert and Robot Console

· Respond promptly to system alerts and production issues

· Escalate critical issues when required

· Ensure continuity of production processes during off-hours

Backup, Tape Library & BRMS Management

· Monitor and manage all system backups

· Operate and maintain tape library systems

· Handle tape rotation, labeling, storage, and inventory

· Perform restores as required

· Maintain and manage BRMS backup policies and configurations

· Ensure backup integrity and successful completion

Document & Report Distribution

· Monitor and manage Compleo queues





· Run Compleo processes to distribute reports

· Ensure timely delivery of operational reports

· Support ESEND or similar tools

User & Operational Support

· Assist users with access issues, password resets, and session recovery

· Unlock files and resolve job-related issues

· Coordinate with second-level support teams

Required Skills & Experience

· Minimum 5 years experience in IBM i (AS400) operations or production support

· Robust experience with:

o Job scheduling and batch monitoring

o Handling job failures and restarts

o Message queues (QSYSOPR)

· Experience with:

o Robot Alert and/or Robot Console

o BRMS backup systems

o Tape library operations and media handling

· Experience with Compleo or similar document distribution tools

· Ability to work independently during off-hours support

Nice to Have

· Experience with HMC, LPAR management, PTF management & system patching

· Experience working with SAN storage systems and ESEND

· Experience supporting IBM i OS upgrades

· Familiarity with Robot Scheduler

Work Schedule

· On-site: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Monday to Friday) & after hours support as required.
