Job Overview

Weir Construction is an oilfield services and aggregate hauling company operating across Alberta, working alongside our affiliate Fire Ridge Transport in the Peace Region. Our workforce is built around professional Class 1 drivers, and we are looking for a Group HR Manager to own the people side of that operation from our Grande Prairie office.

This is a genuine full-scope role. You will be the HR function for two related companies, reporting directly to the General Manager, with the autonomy that comes with it.

What you will do

- Own driver recruitment end to end: postings, screening, interviews, licence and abstract verification, offers, and onboarding
- Act as the first point of contact for driver queries on pay, scheduling, leave, and policy
- Run performance management, progressive discipline, and terminations, with documentation that stands up to scrutiny
- Apply the correct rules across two regulatory regimes: federally regulated drivers under the Canada Labour Code, and provincially regulated employees under the Alberta Employment Standards Code
- Manage WCB Alberta claims, modified work, and return-to-work processes
- Administer the drug and alcohol testing program for safety-sensitive positions
- Support hiring for shop, dispatch, and office roles
- Maintain employee files, HR policies, and perks enrolment, and act as the payroll liaison
- Mediate day-to-day disagreements among drivers, dispatch, and supervisory staff, judging when a matter is resolved informally and when it needs to move to a documented process
- Handle employee relations matters,

including complaint intake and coordination with external counsel where required

What we are looking for

- Demonstrated experience managing recruitment, discipline, and terminations for commercial drivers or a comparable industrial workforce
- Working knowledge of the Alberta Employment Standards Code and Alberta human rights obligations
- Post-secondary education in human resources or business, or equivalent practical experience
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills in a driver-facing or industrial workforce, including informal mediation and clear judgement on escalation
- Comfort working on site with a driver-facing, safety-focused workforce
- Ability to travel occasionally to other company locations in Alberta
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada

Assets (not required, but tell us if you have them)

- Experience in trucking, oilfield services, construction, or another industrial or resource sector
- Familiarity with Canada Labour Code Part III as it applies to federally regulated drivers, including hours-of-work scheduling protections and unjust dismissal provisions
- Experience administering drug and alcohol testing programs in safety-sensitive environments
- Experience supporting responses to human rights complaints or labour program enquiries
- CPHR designation, or progress toward it

What we offer

- Extended health care, dental care, and vision care
- Life insurance
- RRSP match
- On-site parking and casual dress
- A role with real scope: one HR function across two growing companies, not a seat in a large department

Pay: $75,000.00-$95,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
