Assignment: Research & Reference Collections

JOB SUMMARY:
To assume a leadership role in system collection management processes and associated delivery of services

DUTIES:
Under the direction of the designated manager, and working within a team structure, this position is responsible for:

- Devising and maintaining collection development, collection management and/or associated service plans in accordance with divisional requirements and in support of the strategic plan
- Coordinating and advising on the deselection and disposal of system library materials
- Leading or participating in project teams and committees
- Coordinating the activities of the central selection teams and chairing team meetings
- Participating in collection assessment
- Analyzing use statistics, performance measures, etc., to determine material allocation
- Responding to customer feedback and requests for materials
- Recording and monitoring budgetary expenditures
- Assisting in developing collection policies and procedures; interpreting and communicating policies to staff and customers
- Identifying pertinent trends related to the specific area of expertise and disseminating awareness of current research and developments
- Coaching, mentoring and maintaining liaison with branch and department staff
- Participating in training staff in collection development and associated service delivery models
- Taking the lead or participating in the development of grant and funding proposals related to the specific area of expertise
- Coordinating the receipt, allocation and disposal of gift material




- Promoting collections by planning and preparing publicity materials, and conducting outreach activities
- Providing leadership and acting, as required, as Library spokesperson in the specific area of expertise with respect to the media and publishers, vendors, agencies and professional organizations
- Performing other duties relating to collection management or service delivery, including those at the corporate or profession-wide level, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Graduate degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited institution or equivalent education
- Five years' public service experience selecting and developing branch collections
- Experience and/or training in project management
- Proven leadership, interpersonal, communication, diplomatic, presentation and planning skills
- Proven coaching and training skills
- Proven ability to allocate work and direct, organize and motivate staff
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgement, analyze statistical information, and effectively work in a team environment with staff at all levels.
- MS Office skills
