Summary

Gitsegukla Elementary School is seeking a Grade 2/3 Classroom Teacher to provide engaging, structured instruction aligned with the BC Curriculum and the educational priorities of the school. The successful candidate will support student literacy, numeracy, confidence and independence while building respectful connections with Gitxsan language, culture, community and place.

What you will do

- Plan, deliver and assess Grade 2/3 instruction aligned with BC Curriculum.
- Provide structured literacy instruction using Read Well and mathematics instructions using Saxon Math.
- Differentiate instruction to meet a range of learning needs and monitor student progress.
- Create a safe, welcoming, organized and academically focused classroom using positive behavior approaches.
- Meaningfully incorporate First Peoples Principles of Learning and authentic First Peoples resources.
- Respectfully support Gitxsan language, culture, community knowledge and locally relevant learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with Education Assistants, support staff,



administration and families to support student success.
- Complete assessments, report cards, learning plans and required student documentation accurately and on time.
- Communicate professionally with parents/caregivers and participate in school meetings, professional development and required school activities.
- Maintain confidentiality, professional conduct, reliable attendance and compliance with school policies and procedures.

Qualifications: Education and Experience

- Valid teaching certificate through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch, or eligibility to obtain one.
- Qualifications and/or experience appropriate to elementary education.
- Knowledge of the BC Curriculum
- Effective classroom management skills.
- Ability to plan, assess and differentiate instruction.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a school team.
- Willingness to learn and implement the instructional programs adopted by the school.
- Successful completion of employment screening requirements applicable to working with children.

Skill Sets and Competencies

- Experience with Read Well, Saxon Math, First Nations education or diverse learning needs is an asset.
- Knowledge of and previous work experience with First Nations Communities and Indigenous Cultures is a definite asset.
- Is approachable, professional, personable and able to build harmonious working relationships with co-workers and all external stakeholders
- Able to exercise diplomacy, tact and good judgment.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
- Valid criminal record (CPIC) check and Vulnerable Sector Check
