What is Steamoji?

Steamoji is a maker academy that complements and enriches elementary school education by exposing students to new technologies in fabrication, physical computing, engineering and digital arts while teaching them Steamoji soft-skills, such as design thinking, a growth mindset and entrepreneurship. We provide afterschool STEAM enrichment programing for kids aged 6-15.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Facilitator to work closely with young children aged 7-11 (grades 2-5) providing individualized support to help them achieve project completion, inspire confidence and enthusiasm in STEAM subjects, and provide a safe and fun atmosphere for children to experiment and develop a growth mindset.

Are you experienced in working with children? Do you enjoy teaching and building problem solving skills in young engineering minds? Have you mentored youth? This could be the role for you. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with young children or siblings with a natural ability to engage and mentor young children.

This position is for our After School Programs at Upper Lynn Elementary on Tuesdays and Larson Elementary on Wednesdays we will be teaching Grades 2-4 Introduction to Digital Art with Scratch and Introduction to Fabrication which features 3D design in Tinkercad.

On Tuesdays at Upper Lynn Elementary, the class starts at 3:00 and you would need to be there by 2:50 to set up the room. The class finishes at 4:30 and there is usually about 10 min of clean up time.

On Wednesdays at Larson Elementary, the class starts at 2:50 and you would need to be there by 2:40 to set up the room.



The class finishes at 4:20 and there is usually about 10 min of clean up time.

Responsibilities:

- Assist in setting up the room 10 min before class starts
- Assist with the deployment of the Steamoji curriculum
- Contribute to company culture and Steamoji core values
- Review instructional videos before each session
- Work with 4-6 apprentices to complete missions
- Assist and guide apprentices during the making process of Steamoji projects
- Assist apprentices with tools and equipment and ensure safety in the process
- Create and share video artifacts and pictures to provide feedback to parents

Qualifications:

High School or University students seeking a part-time position working with young children and learning basic science principles in the process.

- Energetic, fun and enthusiastic individual with a passion for working with younger children
- Ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults
- Team player who works well with others in a collaborative setting
- Interest in technology and willingness to learn basic coding and 3D design
- French not required

This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain valuable work experience. Steamoji is a growing After School Maker Academy and there are other positions and hours available at many locations.



The successful candidate will be a valuable asset to our team and play a significant role in shaping the educational experiences of our apprentices.

Work Time 2:45-4:45 (*early dismissal, class starts at 1:45 on this day)

Contract length: 2 Months

Expected start date: Sept 23
