ABOUT OUR CLIENT
Our client is an established North American services and education organization supporting both consumers and business customers across several complementary business lines. With a long-standing presence in its market and ambitious growth plans ahead, the organization is investing in stronger internal marketing capability to better support its customers, partners, and commercial teams.
The setting is entrepreneurial, relationship-focused, and evolving, offering the right marketing leader significant chance to shape how the function develops over the coming years.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Our client is hiring their first Director of Marketing to professionalize and further develop its marketing function across multiple B2B and B2C business lines.
This is a broad, hands-on leadership mandate. The Director will establish stronger marketing structure, strategy, measurement, and accountability while improving how marketing supports growth across the organization. A key part of the mandate will be determining which capabilities should be strengthened internally, where external partners continue to add value, and gradually reducing reliance on outsourced execution where it makes sense.
Over the next approximately 2 years, the Director will also build an internal marketing team, adding dedicated capabilities as priorities and workload become transparent.
In the early stages, this person will remain close to execution while setting the strategic direction. As the team grows, the role will naturally evolve toward greater leadership, planning, performance management, and development of the overall function.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a commercially minded marketing leader with meaningful strength across both brand, messaging and content and digital/performance marketing.
You understand how to build a cohesive marketing strategy across different audiences and business lines, connect marketing activity to measurable results, and work closely with sales and other commercial stakeholders. You are equally comfortable improving what already exists and identifying where new processes, capabilities, or resources need to be introduced.
You may already be operating at the Director level, or you may be a strong Senior Manager ready to take on broader ownership.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU!
- $130,000 to $145,000 base salary + performance-based bonus.
- An opportunity to take meaningful ownership of a marketing function and shape how it evolves.
- The mandate to build an internal marketing team over the next 2 years based on business needs and priorities.
- Significant autonomy to influence strategy, processes, systems, resource allocation, vendors, and future team structure.
- Broad exposure across multiple B2B and B2C audiences and service lines.
- An established organization with ambitious growth plans and increased investment in marketing capability.
- A hybrid Toronto work environment within an entrepreneurial and evolving organization.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Own brand positioning, messaging, voice, and visual direction across multiple business lines and audiences, ensuring consistency while adapting the message appropriately for different customer groups.
- Lead the broader content strategy across websites, thought leadership, case studies, newsletters, social channels, sales materials, and other customer-facing communications.
- Lead digital and performance marketing strategy, including SEO/SEM, paid search, paid social, email marketing, automation, lead generation, conversion, and campaign optimization.
- Establish stronger reporting and analytics, connecting marketing activity to leads, pipeline, enrollment, bookings, customer growth, and other commercial outcomes.
- Partner closely with sales and business leaders to strengthen B2B and B2C marketing, including lead generation, sales collateral, campaigns, content, relationship marketing, and support for longer sales cycles.
- Develop and execute marketing strategies for the organization's education, service, and partner-focused offerings, including launches, promotions, audience development, and ongoing growth initiatives.
- Strengthen marketing support for an established partner/franchise network, including localized marketing resources, campaigns, brand support, and lead-generation initiatives.
- Oversee events, webinars, trade shows, partnerships, sponsorships, and other market-facing initiatives that support awareness, relationships, and commercial growth.
- Own a significant marketing budget and determine the appropriate mix of internal resources, paid media, technology, agencies, freelancers, and specialty vendors.
- Review the current agency and vendor model, strengthen internal ownership of marketing knowledge and performance, and reduce external reliance where internal capability can deliver stronger results.
- Improve marketing systems, processes, reporting, and operating rhythms so the function is more proactive, measurable,
and accountable.
- Build the internal marketing team over approximately the next 2 years, hiring and developing the capabilities needed as the function matures.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 7+ years of progressive marketing experience, including 3+ years of marketing leadership experience with meaningful ownership of marketing strategy, budget and small team management.
- Experience in services, franchise or multi-location organizations, education/training, B2B2C environments, or other considered-purchase businesses is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting both B2B and B2C audiences and partnering closely with sales or other commercial teams.
- Experience managing marketing budgets, agencies, freelancers, vendors, and external partners.
- Strong experience across both brand/content and digital/demand generation.
- Meaningful experience with SEO/SEM, paid media, email/automation, lead generation, conversion, and digital campaign performance.
- Strong brand, messaging, writing, and content judgment, with the ability to adapt marketing for different audiences.
- Strong analytical and reporting capabilities, with experience connecting marketing activity to measurable commercial outcomes.
- Experience building, professionalizing, or significantly improving a marketing function.
- Previous experience hiring, developing, or managing a marketing team, ideally within a smaller or growing organization.
- A hands-on mindset and willingness to stay close to execution while the internal team is being developed.
- Franchise or partner-network marketing experience is a strong asset.
- A proactive, commercially minded, and adaptable approach, with the confidence to recommend priorities and operate effectively in an entrepreneurial environment.
