The Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME) is one of six academic units in the Faculty of Engineering. Faculty and staff in the department support and foster the educational and research pursuits of undergraduate and graduate engineering students, while providing the best student experience. Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will apply their expertise and knowledge to technical projects, and find innovative, cost-effective means to conduct and improve research, techniques, technologies, and products. The role will be accountable for designing, developing, conducting, and evaluating current approaches to ensure research and project objectives are met. The Research Engineer will be responsible for associated laboratory work, and will generate, evaluate and analyze data, prepare and present reports and findings.





The Research Engineer will conduct detailed compoent tests of equipment at Eden Energy equipment in Guelph and conduct fundamental experiments on melting/solidification of Phase-change materials (PCMs) for thermal storage in research labs. This role will independently conduct experiments on melting/solidification of PCMs andassist the work of other HQP in the research group.

Qualifications

Education:

- Master's degree in a relevant discipline, PhD in relevant position preferred

Experience:

- 3 years' working experience in a related academic research workplace
- Work on postdoctoral research portfolio, directly related to the research focus preferred

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

- Communication skills with the ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Advanced skills in software and applications supporting the research development and analysis
- Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Familiarity with University research policies and practices
- Oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on proposal development and presentation
- Ability to work in a fluid and evolving work setting with changing deadlines and priorities




- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
- Ability to adhere to legislated safety requirements and Western safety policies
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
