Overview The accounting controller is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls and accounting policies. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information, supports strategic decision making and ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements and regulatory obligations.
The controller will lead the accounting team and work closely with senior management to maintain strong financial controls and improve financial processes.

Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant with applicable accounting standards.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Provide management with financial analysis and insights to support business decisions.
- Coordinate year-end financial reporting and external audit activities.
Accounting Operations
- Manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
Internal Controls and Compliance
- Develop, implement,
and monitor effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with relevant tax, financial, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, financial institutions, and other professional service providers.
- Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Budgeting and Financial Planning
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor actual financial performance against budgets and fore.casts.
- Analyze significant variances and provide explanations and recommendations to management.
- Support long-term financial planning and business growth initiatives.
Leadership and Process Improvement
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
- Establish departmental goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting systems, and operational efficiency.
- Support the implementation and optimization of accounting and financial software systems.
- Collaborate with other departments to improve financial controls and business processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation preferred or required, depending on organizational needs.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
- Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working with external auditors and tax advisors is an asset.
