Overview

Impressions Group is seeking an experienced Accounting Systems Controller for a project-based contract to modernize and streamline our accounting systems and processes.

This is not a traditional bookkeeping position. The successful candidate will assess our current accounting environment, design improved financial controls and workflows, and lead the transition from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online or another appropriate accounting platform.

The primary objective is to build a reliable, documented and substantially automated accounting system with effective job costing, purchasing, inventory controls and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

- Assess existing accounting processes, systems and financial controls.
- Design and implement improved accounting workflows and internal controls.
- Lead or oversee the transition from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online or another appropriate platform.
- Develop effective job costing, purchase order and inventory control processes.
- Improve accounts payable, invoice and receipt capture, approvals and reconciliations.
- Identify and implement opportunities to reduce manual data entry through automation and system integrations.
- Establish reliable month-end and balance sheet reconciliation procedures.
- Improve management reporting and visibility into job profitability.
- Coordinate with external accountants, software specialists and internal staff as required.
- Document accounting processes, controls and SOPs.
- Train staff and complete a formal handover of the new accounting environment.
- Support year-end readiness for our March 31 fiscal year-end.

Qualifications

- Controller-level, senior accounting or comparable financial management experience.
- Solid bookkeeping and accounting fundamentals.
- Demonstrated experience improving or implementing accounting systems and financial controls.




- Experience with QuickBooks Desktop and/or QuickBooks Online.
- Experience with accounting software migration or implementation.
- Knowledge of job costing, inventory, purchasing and accounts payable processes.
- Strong reconciliation, month-end and financial reporting skills.
- Strong technology, systems and process-improvement aptitude.
- Ability to independently assess problems, develop solutions and lead implementation.
- Experience with accounting automation, integrations and AI-enabled tools is an asset.
- CPA, CA or comparable designation is an asset; equivalent hands-on systems and controller experience will be considered.

Contract Objective By the end of the engagement, Impressions Group intends to have a modernized accounting environment with substantially less manual data entry, reliable job costing and inventory controls, streamlined approval processes, improved financial reporting, documented procedures and a clear ongoing bookkeeping model.

The successful candidate will be someone who can design and build better accounting processes—not simply operate within existing ones.

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
