Automation Controls Specialist
Location: Mississauga, ON
Job Type: Full time
Salary: $80,000–$85,000 CAD, based on experience and education
Travel: Some local and international travel required (Canada, U.S., and Mexico)

Job Overview
This role is ideal for an experienced automation professional who thrives on hands-on technical work, from PLC programming and SCADA/HMI development to servo control system commissioning.
Our client is looking for an Automation Controls Specialist to support the design, programming, integration, installation, and commissioning of industrial control systems. You'll work both independently and alongside cross-functional teams, applying your technical expertise in industrial device integration to a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Participate in controls architecture, programming, and commissioning for large single machines, feed lines, and engineering projects.
- Program control systems for servo, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, as well as testing and electrical devices.
- Ensure electrical designs are functional, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective.
- Monitor project scope and proactively identify potential scope creep.
- Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls as required.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and take the lead on assigned projects when needed.
- Provide clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and project stakeholders.
- Support off-site installations and commissioning activities.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5–7 years of directly related experience .
- Strong technical understanding of industrial device integration.
- Proven experience with PLC programming, SCADA/HMI design, and servo control system commissioning.
- Experience with off-site installation and commissioning.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience working in a plant or manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
Software & Technical Knowledge
- Proficiency with PLC and HMI development platforms such as Allen-Bradley RSLogix, Siemens, Schneider, Omron, or Bosch .
- Experience with schematic design and CAD software such as AutoCAD or Inventor .
- Strong hands-on knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and servo control systems.
- Experience integrating industrial automation devices and control systems.
