Key Responsibilities

- Inspect and test mechanical units and systems, including engines, transmissions, axles, brake systems, steering and suspension systems, to identify faults and malfunctions.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using computerized diagnostic equipment, testing devices and other specialized automotive tools, and confirm findings to determine appropriate repairs.
- Repair, adjust or replace mechanical, electrical and electronic components and systems using hand tools, power tools and other automotive service equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and service, including oil and fluid changes, filter replacement, lubrication, brake service, tire service and other scheduled vehicle maintenance.
- Repair and service vehicle systems and components, including engines, transmissions, drivetrain, steering, suspension, braking, exhaust, cooling, climate-control and electrical systems.




- Test and adjust repaired components and systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Complete service reports and records documenting vehicle inspections, diagnostic findings, repairs and other work performed, and communicate repair findings and recommended maintenance to supervisors and customers.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Completion of secondary school and training courses or a vocational program related to automotive service is required.
- Completion of a four-year automotive service technician apprenticeship program or a combination of more than four years of work experience and industry courses in automotive technology is required.
- SkilledTradesBC Automotive Service Technician Certificate of Qualification with Red Seal certification is preferred.
- Previous experience performing automotive inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair is required.
- Ability to use computerized diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools and other automotive service equipment.
- Good communication skills in English and the ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers and customers.
- A valid driver's licence is an asset.
