About the Position
We are seeking an experienced, energetic and relationship-focused Business Development Manager to lead the growth of our home care services throughout Greater Sudbury and surrounding communities.
This position is ideal for a professional who understands the healthcare, home care, long-term care, retirement living or community-services environment and has the ability to develop solid, professional relationships with referral partners and healthcare organizations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with long-term care homes, retirement homes, hospitals, community organizations, social development workers, social service agencies, community workers and other healthcare/referral partners.
This is a field-based relationship-building role. The successful candidate will spend significant time meeting people in the community, visiting organizations, attending networking events, presenting our services and developing a strong referral network.
Key Responsibilities
1. Healthcare & Community Relationship Development
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with:
- Long-term care homes
- Retirement homes
- Hospitals and healthcare organizations
- Community care organizations
- Social development workers
- Social workers and community workers
- Community organizations and agencies
- Senior-serving organizations
- Physicians and healthcare professionals where appropriate
- Other organizations that may refer clients to home care services
- Identify key decision-makers and referral contacts within each organization.
- Arrange regular in-person meetings and follow-ups with referral partners.
- Educate referral partners about our home care services, availability and areas of specialization.
- Become a trusted and professional point of contact for the organization.
- Maintain consistent communication with referral sources rather than contacting them only when seeking referrals.
2. Business Development
- Develop and execute a monthly and annual business-development plan for Sudbury and surrounding areas.
- Identify new referral opportunities and underserved markets.
- Prospect for new organizational partnerships.
- Schedule presentations and meetings with potential referral partners.
- Develop strategic partnerships that can generate sustainable client referrals.
- Represent the company professionally at community events, healthcare meetings, networking events and conferences.
- Identify opportunities to expand home care services within existing relationships.
- Monitor competitors, market conditions and emerging opportunities in the local home care market.
3. Long-Term Care & Retirement Home Outreach
- Establish relationships with Administrators, Directors of Care, Resident Care Managers and other appropriate decision-makers.
- Visit LTC and retirement-home communities regularly.
- Understand the needs of each organization and identify where our services can provide value.
- Develop facility-specific relationship plans.
- Follow up promptly on inquiries and referrals.
- Maintain an organized database of contacts, meetings, opportunities and referrals.
4. Hospital & Community Referral Development
- Develop qualified relationships with appropriate hospital and community contacts.
- Build awareness of our services among professionals involved in discharge planning, community support and continuing care.
- Help ensure that families and clients who require additional home support are aware of our services where appropriate.
- Develop relationships with community and social-service organizations that support seniors, adults with disabilities and individuals requiring assistance at home.
5. Community Presence
- Represent the company at community events, seniors' events, healthcare conferences, networking groups and professional meetings.
- Develop partnerships with organizations serving seniors, families and vulnerable populations.
- Participate in local networking opportunities throughout Greater Sudbury and surrounding communities.
- Help increase the company's visibility and reputation as a trusted home care provider.
6. CRM & Reporting
- Maintain an accurate database/CRM of referral partners and prospects.
- Record meetings, calls, presentations, referrals and follow-ups.
- Provide weekly business-development activity reports.
- Maintain a qualified pipeline of prospective referral partners.
- Track referral sources and identify which relationships are producing sustainable opportunities.
- Provide management with monthly business-development reports and market feedback.
What We Are Looking For
Required Experience
- 3–5+ years of business development, sales, community relations or healthcare relationship-management experience.
- Experience in home care, long-term care, retirement living, healthcare, community services or a related sector is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
- Experience dealing with healthcare or community-service organizations is a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of the local Sudbury healthcare/community-services setting is preferred.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel throughout Greater Sudbury and surrounding communities.
