Kinbridge Community Association

Cambridge

Overview

Kinbridge Community Association is seeking an organized, resourceful and hands-on Food Facilitator to support the Cambridge Neighbourhood Table (CNT), our community meal program that brings people together through free, welcoming meals across Cambridge.

The Food Facilitator will take the lead on the day-to-day meal planning, food sourcing and procurement, inventory management, and food preparation that keeps CNT meals running successfully.

This is a hands-on, in-person position with administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate should be just as comfortable working in a kitchen, preparing food, unpacking large food deliveries or organizing inventory as they are creating a meal plan, updating a spreadsheet or coordinating with staff and community partners.

The Food Facilitator will work closely with the Social Impact Manager, CNT Coordinator, CNT staff, volunteers and community partners to ensure our meal sites have the food, supplies and preparation plans needed to successfully serve our community.

As CNT continues to grow and evolve, we are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who takes initiative, identifies opportunities and solutions, and is comfortable helping to build and improve systems as the program develops. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can see what needs to be done, take ownership of their work and bring forward ideas that strengthen CNT's food operations.

This is an evolving position within a growing community initiative. Responsibilities may develop and change over time in response to program growth, emerging community needs and operational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Meal Planning & Food Preparation

- Lead meal planning for CNT meals for 5 locations.
- Work collaboratively with the CNT Coordinator and community partners to coordinate meal plans, food resources and program needs.
- Develop practical, nutritious and welcoming meals based on available inventory, Food Bank items, donations, budget, dietary considerations and anticipated attendance.
- Creatively adapt meal plans based on available ingredients, changing inventory and program needs.
- Prepare and organize ingredients and supplies for upcoming meals.
- Provide hands-on support with food preparation and cooking as required.
- Provide clear preparation instructions and direction to staff and volunteers supporting meal preparation.
- Plan appropriate quantities to meet anticipated community demand while minimizing food waste.

Food Procurement, Food Bank & Inventory

- Work collaboratively with the CNT Coordinator to support CNT’s ordering process based on upcoming menus, current inventory and program needs.
- Receive, unpack, sort, label and appropriately store incoming Food Bank orders,

purchases and donations.
- Maintain accurate and organized food inventory.
- Regularly monitor available food, expiry/best-before dates and upcoming program needs.
- Identify gaps and coordinate grocery and supply purchases within established program budgets.
- Help allocate and transport food resources appropriately across CNT locations.
- Maintain clean, organized and food-safe storage, preparation and kitchen spaces.
- Support CNT’s efforts to reduce food waste and make responsible use of donated and purchased food.

Administration & Coordination

- Maintain meal plans, inventory records, food orders, purchasing information and other required program documentation.
- Use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and SharePoint for planning, recipes, menus, record keeping and sharing program information.
- Communicate upcoming menus, food needs and preparation plans with the CNT team, volunteers and community partners.
- Ensure relevant CNT food and meal-planning documents are current, organized and accessible.
- Work within established program budgets and support tracking of food purchases and expenses.
- Participate in CNT planning and team meetings as required.

Meal Prep & Program Support

- Work collaboratively with the CNT Coordinator to ensure meal days are appropriately planned, supplied and prepared for.
- Provide hands-on kitchen, food preparation and meal-day support as needed.
- Work positively with staff, volunteers and community partners with varying levels of kitchen experience during meal prep.
- Follow and promote safe food handling, sanitation and kitchen practices.
- Support a welcoming, inclusive and dignified experience for community members and volunteers.
- Occasionally provide evening meal-site coverage in the event of staff illness, vacation or other operational needs.
- Adapt to changing attendance, food availability and other realities of a busy community-based meal program.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED certification.
- Current Safe Food Handling/Food Handler Certification is required.
- Valid Ontario G driver's licence and consistent access to a reliable personal vehicle are required. Regular travel between CNT locations is an essential component of this position, including transporting food, groceries, supplies and program materials between sites.

- Demonstrated initiative and an entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to identify needs, develop solutions and move work forward independently.
- A strong self-starter who is comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities without requiring ongoing direction.
- Resourceful, adaptable and comfortable working within an evolving program where priorities and responsibilities may change as CNT continues to grow.
- Strong organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, load, unload and transport food, boxes and program supplies and to stand for extended periods during food preparation and meal service.
- Comfortable planning, preparing and portioning food for large groups.
- Resourceful and creative when working with donated food, changing inventory and available resources.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and SharePoint, with the ability to maintain accurate digital records.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and community partners.
- Knowledge of and commitment to safe food handling, food storage, sanitation and kitchen practices.
- Flexibility and the ability to adjust priorities as program needs change.
- Commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

Hours & Work Location: This is a part time position of 20 hours per week, with additional hours required from time to time based on program and operational needs.

Hours are shift-based and will vary from month to month based on the CNT meal schedule and program needs. Most scheduled hours can be expected to fall between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional evening hours required for meal-site coverage, special events, staff absences or other operational needs.

Flexibility in scheduling is an important component of this position.

This position is fully in-person and on-site. Remote work is not available.

Work will take place at Kinbridge Community Association and CNT partner locations throughout Cambridge. Regular travel between locations is required, and the Food Facilitator will routinely transport food, groceries, supplies and other program materials between sites. A valid driver's licence and consistent access to a reliable personal vehicle are therefore essential to the position.

As Cambridge Neighbourhood Table continues to evolve and expand, the duties and responsibilities of this position may also develop to respond to changing program and community needs.
