Job Title: Relationship Manager, Commercial Banking
Location: Markham, Ontario
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Relationship Manager to join our Commercial Banking team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of commercial and corporate clients, originating new business opportunities, structuring credit solutions, and maintaining strong credit and risk management discipline.
This role requires strong capabilities in business development, financial analysis, credit underwriting, deal structuring, and relationship management, with exposure to lending, deposits, trade finance, commercial mortgages, syndicated transactions, and cross-border banking solutions.
What You Will Do
- Act as the primary relationship manager for an assigned portfolio of commercial and corporate clients, building long-term relationships and increasing clients’ overall contribution to the Bank.
- Originate new business opportunities across commercial lending, deposits, trade finance, and cross-border banking solutions.
- Develop relationships with Canadian businesses across diversified industries, including manufacturing, power, infrastructure, high technology, and trading.
- Identify cross-selling and portfolio growth opportunities by understanding clients’ business models, financial needs, and strategic objectives.
- Independently analyze financial statements, borrower performance, industry conditions, and credit risk to develop sound credit recommendations.
- Prepare and review credit applications and annual relationship reviews in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Structure and negotiate credit facilities,
including commercial loans, commercial mortgages, syndicated lending, and other financing solutions.
- Organize and underwrite syndicated transactions and support the execution of trade finance transactions.
- Negotiate terms and conditions for new and existing credit facilities and coordinate transactions through approval, documentation, and closing.
- Monitor portfolio performance, including financial covenants, credit conditions, risk indicators, and overall relationship quality, and take appropriate action when required.
- Maintain strong risk management, compliance, and internal control discipline across the assigned portfolio.
- Collaborate with Credit, Risk Management, Operations, Financial Markets, Transaction Banking, Compliance, and other internal stakeholders to deliver integrated client solutions.
- Work with internal teams across jurisdictions to support cross-border transactions and client needs.
- Stay informed of market and industry developments, particularly those affecting cross-border trade, investment, and commercial banking opportunities.
- Participate in client presentations, marketing initiatives, networking activities, and client events to strengthen relationships and develop new business.
What You Bring to the Table
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- At leash 3 years of experience in commercial banking, corporate banking, relationship management, credit, or commercial lending.
- Demonstrated experience in business development and client relationship management, with the ability to originate and grow commercial banking relationships.
- Strong knowledge of commercial credit, financial statement analysis, credit underwriting, and loan structuring.
- Experience with commercial loans and commercial mortgages; exposure to syndicated lending and trade finance is a strong asset.
- Ability to independently assess borrowers and develop a clear and well-supported credit rationale.
- Strong understanding of credit risk, portfolio monitoring, financial covenants, and banking controls.
- Robust negotiation, presentation, and client-facing communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with credit, risk, product, operations, and other internal stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple clients and transactions simultaneously.
- Knowledge of the Canadian commercial banking market and cross-border banking activities is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
