Summary The Contract Manufacturing Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing contract manufacturing activities across assigned regions, ensuring the timely delivery of products, effective supplier performance, and efficient execution of end-to-end operational processes.
This role provides leadership and direction across the contract manufacturing function and serves as a key link between contract manufacturers and internal stakeholders such as schedulers, project managers, logistics, and warehouse teams. The Manager ensures that products move successfully from initial demand and planning through production, receipt, and final delivery in full, while maintaining high standards of quality, service, cost, and operational efficiency. The Manager troubleshoots deficiencies and implements effective corrective actions to mitigate future occurrences.
In addition to managing day-to-day operations, the Contract Manufacturing Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining strong supplier relationships, sourcing new suppliers when required, identifying opportunities for process improvement, ensuring data accuracy and system integrity, supporting business continuity, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the contract manufacturing function.
Regional assignments, priorities, and responsibilities may change based on business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Oversee and manage contract manufacturing activities across assigned regions.
2. Own and lead the end-to-end contract manufacturing process, from planning and production scheduling through product delivery.
3. Manage existing contract manufacturer relationships and source recent ones as required.
4.
Execute contract manufacturing activities, including order placement, production schedules, capacity planning, and timely fulfillment.
5. Create, review, and maintain purchasing documentation, including purchase orders and related records.
6. Develop, review, and maintain technical drawings, specifications, and other manufacturing documentation as required.
7. Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and manufacturers to investigate deficiencies and product delivery issues. Troubleshoot and determine root causes and implement effective corrective actions to mitigate future occurrences.
8. Monitor supplier and contract manufacturer performance against quality, delivery, cost, and service expectations, and negotiate terms to achieve more effective contract manufacturing services.
9. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data within internal systems to support planning, purchasing, inventory management, and operational processes.
10. Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives designed to increase operational efficiency, reduce risks, improve service levels, and strengthen the contract manufacturing process.
11. Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Contract Manufacturing team members and support the development of less-experienced employees.
12. Establish priorities, monitor workload,
and ensure the successful completion of key projects and operational deliverables.
13. Ensure compliance with applicable company policies, procedures, quality requirements, and relevant manufacturing and operational standards.
14. Provide support and perform tasks as it relates to Contract Manufacturing but not limited to the key responsibilities outlined above.
15. Perform additional duties and projects assigned by management as it relates to Contract Manufacturing and operational priorities.
Experience and Skills
- 6+ years of progressive experience in contract manufacturing, supplier management, supply chain, operations, or a related field.
- Previous experience in kitchen cabinetry, millwork, furniture manufacturing, or a related industry is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to interpret and translate technical drawings and specifications.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, competing priorities, and time-sensitive operational requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to identify opportunities for operational improvement and successfully implement solutions.
- Strong ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to mentor, coach, and support team members.
- High level of accountability, ownership, and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant ERP systems.
