FULL-TIME ZAMBONI OPERATOR & GENERAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Position Summary

London Sports Park is looking for a dependable, mechanically minded and hands-on Zamboni Operator & General Maintenance Technician to join our facility team.

This position plays an important role in keeping our ice surface, equipment and facility operating safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will be responsible for ice resurfacing, Zamboni operation and maintenance, general building maintenance, troubleshooting, cleaning and supporting the day-to-day operation of the facility.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, can identify and address maintenance issues before they become larger problems, and is comfortable working independently while also supporting and leading other staff when required.

Previous experience in ice rink operations, Zamboni operation, refrigeration, mechanical maintenance or facility maintenance is considered a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities

Ice & Zamboni Operations

- Operate the Zamboni/ice resurfacer safely and efficiently to maintain a high-quality ice surface.
- Perform ice resurfacing, edging and other routine ice maintenance duties.
- Monitor ice conditions and identify issues that may affect ice quality or player safety.
- Conduct daily inspections and preventative maintenance of the Zamboni and related equipment.
- Report mechanical issues and coordinate repairs when required.
- Assist with basic refrigeration plant monitoring and ice-making operations as required.

Facility Maintenance

- Perform general building and facility maintenance throughout the rink.
- Complete routine mechanical, plumbing, electrical and basic HVAC maintenance and repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance on facility equipment and systems.
- Troubleshoot equipment and facility issues and determine appropriate solutions.
- Assist with painting, repairs, cleaning and general upkeep of the facility.
- Maintain clean, organized and safe mechanical and work areas.
- Assist with seasonal facility maintenance and special projects.

Safety & Operations

- Follow all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.




- Complete required safety inspections and maintenance records.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections, repairs, maintenance and parts used.
- Ensure equipment is operated safely and appropriately at all times.
- Identify potential safety hazards and report or correct them promptly.
- Work safely around refrigeration equipment, ice resurfacing equipment, lifts and other facility machinery.

Team & Customer Support

- Work cooperatively with rink staff, supervisors and management.
- Provide direction and support to maintenance or facility staff when required.
- Assist with supervising staff during shifts when assigned.
- Respond professionally to facility-related concerns from staff, customers, teams and guests.
- Help ensure the facility is clean, safe and ready for scheduled activities and events.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

- Minimum 2 years of relevant mechanical, maintenance, facility or equipment experience.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to safely lift approximately 40 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work from heights when required.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced recreational facility.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and appropriate screening for working with youth and vulnerable persons.

Assets:

- Previous Zamboni or ice resurfacer operating experience.
- Previous ice rink or arena maintenance experience.
- Class B Refrigeration Operator certificate.
- Certified Ice Technician training or equivalent experience.
- Previous refrigeration plant experience.
- Supervisory or leadership experience.
- Scissor lift certification.
- Confined space training.




- Electrical safety training.
- WHMIS training.
- Experience with plumbing, electrical, HVAC or mechanical systems.

Working Conditions This is a hands-on position in an active ice rink environment. The successful candidate must be comfortable:

- Working indoors and in cold rink environments.
- Working at heights when required.
- Operating and working around heavy machinery and equipment.
- Lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 40 lbs.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Working alone or with minimal supervision.
- Working day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts.
- Responding to maintenance or facility issues as they arise.

Schedule This is a seasonal full-time position with approximately 8–10 hour shifts.

Typical shifts may include

Day Shift: Approximately 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Evening/Night Shift: Approximately 4:00 PM – 2:00 AM

Weekends: Regular weekend availability required

Shift times may vary depending on the facility schedule, tournaments, rentals and operational requirements.

Compensation

$19.00 – $21.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications and certifications.
