Where First Impressions Become Lifelong Memories
Some of the best hospitality happens quietly: a warm hello at the door, a name remembered, a table ready right when it's needed, a stranger made to feel like family. If that sounds like the work you love — the work that made you great on the floor of a busy restaurant — we'd like to talk to you about doing it here, on the water.
The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club is one of Canada's oldest and most storied private member clubs — a vibrant community built on cruising, racing, volunteering, and generations of friendships formed on the docks and around the table. We operate under a simple philosophy: Unreasonable Hospitality. Every member and guest should feel genuinely, memorably welcome — and that starts with the person who greets them first.
The Role
As a Guest Services Ambassador, you are the face and the feel of the Club. You set the tone the moment someone walks through the door — whether it's a longtime member arriving for dinner, a family stepping off their boat after a weekend cruise, or a first-time guest attending a wedding or regatta. It's the same skill set that makes a great restaurant hostess indispensable: reading a room, managing flow under pressure, and making every single person feel like they were expected and wanted.
What You'll Do
- Greet members, guests, and visiting boaters with warmth and genuine attentiveness — the first "hello" that sets the whole visit.
- Manage reservations, seating, and guest flow across dining rooms, lounges, and event spaces, keeping things moving smoothly even when the house is full.
- Coordinate with servers, event staff, and the kitchen to ensure every table and event runs on time and without friction.
- Help newcomers find their way — physically around the clubhouse and grounds, and socially into the life of the Club.
- Support the buzz of Club life: regattas, cruises, seasonal dinners,
weddings, and member events where a calm, welcoming presence at the front door matters most.
- Anticipate needs before they're spoken — the small, thoughtful touches that turn a good visit into a memorable one.
What You'll Bring
- Experience in a fast-paced, guest-facing hospitality role — restaurant hostessing, front-of-house, or similar guest services experience is ideal.
- A natural warmth and genuine interest in people; you make strangers feel like regulars within minutes.
- Grace under pressure — comfortable managing a full room, a waitlist, and a dozen small requests at once.
- Sharp attention to detail and strong organizational instincts.
- A team-first mindset and the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and event days as the Club's calendar demands.
- An interest in — or willingness to learn about — yachting, cruising, and Club life is a welcome bonus, not a requirement.
Why RVYC

It's an environment built on mentorship, camaraderie, and pride in a shared passion, where the person who welcomes people through the door is valued as much as anyone on the water.
