Days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays The Cardiac & Vascular program is responsible for the care provided to patients on 5 South(Cardiac Surgery), 4 West (Vascular Surgery), the CCU, CIU (Cardiology) as well as the Heart Investigation Unit, ICU West, the Electrophysiology Lab, Autonomic Lab, Outpatients Department and the Cardiac Health and Rehabilitation Centre at the General site.

The Arrhythmia Services

Program at the General site supports care of patients requiring electrophysiology studies and cardiac ablations, permanent pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillators and cardioversion. Patients from Hamilton-Wentworth and Central South Ontario are referred for investigation of acute cardiac arrhythmias. Invasive diagnostics as well as therapeutic procedures are performed in the EPS lab, five days a week. The results of these investigations may determine whether a patient requires a permanent pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

- Grade 12 high school graduate diploma or equivalent
- Current Certificate in CPR/BCLS
- Completed CSAO Techniques course
- Minimum 2 years technical experience in a similar role (the handling and care of delicate equipment) within a healthcare environment
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and stocking materials and supplies (sterile/unsterile)
- Knowledge and skill in using computers (Microsoft Office)
- Working knowledge of Universal Precautions and WHMIS
- Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, collaboration and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated initiative and judgment appropriate for the position
- Ability to read and write English proficiently
- Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions, set priorities and organize work accordingly
- Ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend, push and pull using good body techniques

As a member of the healthcare team, the Health Care Aide supports patient care through equipment and supply management, maintenance of a clean, safe environment and participation in selected patient care activities.



The HCA provides unit support to patients, families and those providing service and/or care.
