About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Health & Safety Coordinator (COR Certified) to lead, manage, and continuously enhance our occupational health and safety program. This role is responsible for maintaining COR accreditation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving a strong, safety-first culture across all operations.

As a leader, you will provide strategic direction, mentor field teams, and act as the primary authority on health and safety matters across multiple job sites, including coordination with subcontractors and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

COR Program Leadership & Compliance

- Lead and maintain the company’s Certificate of Recognition (COR) program, ensuring continuous compliance and audit readiness at all times.
- Oversee COR documentation, internal audits, and external audit preparation and execution.
- Ensure timely completion, tracking, and follow-up of incident reports, corrective actions, and compliance requirements.
- Identify and facilitate participation in applicable health and safety rebate and incentive programs.

Health & Safety Program Management

- Develop, implement, and continuously improve health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices in accordance with OSHA and applicable regulations.
- Translate operational requirements into site-specific health and safety plans for all projects.
- Partner with Project Coordinators and Operations teams to ensure all new job sites are properly set up with compliant safety plans.
- Provide required safety documentation to general contractors when acting as a subcontractor.

Planning, Auditing & Risk Management

- Plan and execute comprehensive inspection and audit schedules across all worksites.
- Conduct hazard assessments, risk evaluations, and compliance reviews.
- Monitor subcontractor health and safety compliance and coordinate corrective actions where required.
- Track, analyze,



and report safety KPIs (e.g., incident rates, audit scores, training compliance).

Incident Investigation & Continuous Improvement

- Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, and near-misses using root cause analysis methodologies.
- Develop and implement corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk and enhance workplace safety performance.
- Annual review and update of all safety documentation, as well as developing new safe work practices and SOP’s.

Training, Leadership & Safety Culture

- Provide leadership and mentorship to supervisors and crew members to foster a strong safety culture.
- Coordinate, deliver, and track mandatory safety training programs, including onboarding for new hires.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) activities.
- Act as a subject matter expert and advisor to management and field teams on all safety-related matters.

Field Oversight & Operational Support

- Ensure all crews adhere to job specifications, safety plans, and PPE requirements.
- Verify completion of equipment, vehicle, and site safety checks.
- Regularly visit job sites to reinforce compliance, coach teams, and identify improvement opportunities.
- Ensure all specialized PPE & safety equipment is maintained and recertified as required.

Employee Relations & Team Development

- Champion a respectful, inclusive, and safety-focused workplace culture.
- Establish and enforce behavioral and performance expectations related to safety.
- Address and resolve workplace issues, conflicts, or non-compliance in a timely and professional manner.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and strong communication across all crews and departments.

Stakeholder & Industry Engagement

- Coordinate safety compliance efforts with subcontractors and external partners.
- Represent the company at industry events, audits, and regulatory engagements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving legislation, standards,



and industry best practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

- 5+ years of progressive experience in health and safety within construction, excavation, or a related industry.
- Proven experience leading and maintaining COR certification.
- COR Auditor or Internal Auditor certification (preferred or willingness to obtain).
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related field (strong asset).
- CRSP designation or working toward certification (asset).
- In-depth knowledge of Ontario safety regulations, OHSA principles, and industry standards.
- Strong expertise in hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development experience.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and training skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management systems (e.g., Intelex, Cority).

Working Conditions:

- Frequent travel to client job sites across Niagara Region.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors and in various site conditions (construction zones, roadways, etc.).
