Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and collaborative High School Learning Support Teacher to join our team for a temporary medical leave contract. The Learning Support Teacher works closely with classroom teachers, educational assistants, students, and families to design, implement, and monitor individualized support plans that ensure academic success and well-being for diverse learners.

Key Responsibilities

- Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Develop, implement, review, and adapt IEPs and Student Support Plans in alignment with provincial standards and school goals.
- Direct Student Support: Provide targeted small-group and one-on-one academic intervention, executive functioning coaching, and learning strategies for high school students.
- Collaboration & Co-Teaching: Partner with high school subject teachers to differentiate instruction, provide classroom accommodations, and implement universal design for learning (UDL) principles.
- Assessment & Tracking: Conduct informal educational assessments, interpret psychoeducational evaluations, and track student progress systematically.




- Case Management & Communication: Serve as the primary case manager for designated students, facilitating regular communication with parents, staff, and external support professionals (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists).
- Community Engagement: Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment that aligns with Montessori values of respect, autonomy, and community.

Qualifications &

Experience

- Valid BC Professional Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch).
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) required; specialized coursework or a post-graduate diploma/degree in Special Education / Inclusive Education is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience providing learning support and writing IEPs at the high school level .
- Familiarity with the BC High School Curriculum, graduation requirements, and provincial assessment frameworks.
- Robust understanding of diverse learning profiles, neurodiversity, and positive behaviour support strategies.
- Familiarity with Montessori philosophy and adolescent development is an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
