Bite Brands
Toronto
Bite Brands is a Toronto-based multi-brand restaurant operator building a portfolio of high-growth concepts across Canada and the U.S. We hold the Dave’s Hot Chicken master franchise rights for Canada, founded and operate Forest Hill Farmhouse, and run a Florida-based operation for Dave’s Hot Chicken. We’re scaling quickly, and we’re looking for a hands-on HR Business Partner to help us build the people foundation that growth depends on.
The Role The HR Business Partner is the people function’s on-the-ground partner to our restaurant operations and corporate teams. You’ll work directly with operators, area managers, and leadership to support a workforce that spans salaried corporate staff and a large hourly, multi-unit field population across multiple provinces and the U.S. This is a builder’s role: you’ll own day-to-day HR partnership while helping to professionalize and scale our people practices, policies, and systems as we grow.
Key Responsibilities
Business Partnership & Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for restaurant operations leaders and corporate departments, coaching managers on performance, conduct, and team development.
- Manage employee relations issues end to end — investigations, conflict resolution, performance management, and terminations — with sound judgment and documentation.
- Partner with operators and area managers to reduce turnover and improve retention across high-volume hourly teams.
Talent & Performance
- Support recruitment and onboarding for both salaried and hourly roles, partnering with hiring managers on workforce planning at the unit level.
- Help operationalize performance review cycles, succession planning, and development pathways for field and corporate talent.
- Partner on the rollout of incentive and bonus programs (e.g., area manager bonus plans,
LTIP) in coordination with Finance and leadership.
Compliance & Policy
- Ensure HR practices comply with employment standards across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, and coordinate on U.S. (Florida) employment requirements.
- Maintain, communicate, and enforce HR policies; help build and scale the policy infrastructure (handbooks, approval frameworks, codes of conduct) appropriate to a growing multi-unit operator.
- Administer and advise on benefits programs and leaves in partnership with our providers.
Systems, Culture & People Operations
- Help select, implement, and maintain HR systems (HRIS, ATS) suited to a distributed restaurant workforce.
- Support compensation benchmarking and pay equity across brands and regions.
- Champion company culture and engagement initiatives across corporate and field teams.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with meaningful time as an HRBP or HR generalist.
- Direct experience supporting a multi-unit, distributed workforce — restaurant, retail, hospitality, or QSR strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of Canadian provincial employment standards (ON, AB, BC); familiarity with U.S. employment law an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to manage employee relations and investigations independently.
- Comfort operating in a quick-paced, high-growth environment where processes are still being built.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with operators and senior leadership alike.
- CHRP/CHRL designation an asset.
What Success looks like (first 12 months):
- Trusted advisor to operators and leadership, with measurable improvement in manager confidence handling people issues.
- Reduced time-to-fill and improved retention in key field roles.
- A clear, compliant, and scalable HR policy and systems foundation in place across all operating regions.
