Ground Level Humanity is dedicated to serving people who have been overlooked, marginalized, or left without support, with a particular focus on individuals experiencing homelessness. The organization believes every life should be cherished and works directly at “ground level,” meeting people where they are, listening to their stories, and validating their experiences. We help people explore the feelings and events that led to their current situation and introduce practical mental frameworks to support change.

Humanity connects people with essential resources such as emotional support, food, water, and shelter, and prioritizes bringing help directly to the person rather than relying on distant systems. The organization’s mission centers on rebuilding human connection and ensuring no one feels invisible or alone. We aim to help the forgotten and overlooked lives who are still here with us today. We make a difference by helping the forgotten and reminding them that every life should be cherished.

Role Description:

The Humanity Cherisher will be at the forefront, at ground level of the Canadian homeless problem, standing eye to eye with the human beings who need our help. This individual will be a brave person who isn’t afraid to speak with and assist our fellow human beings.

The Humanity

Cherisher will engage directly with individuals experiencing homelessness and marginalization, providing trauma-informed, person-centered support in street outreach and community settings. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting assessments, building trusting relationships, developing individualized support plans,



and connecting individuals to resources such as shelter, food, healthcare, mental health services, and social programs. The role involves advocating for clients with service providers, accompanying them to appointments when needed, and coordinating with local agencies to bring services directly to the person.

The Humanity

Cherisher will also document interactions, track progress, participate in team meetings, contribute to program development, and help maintain a safe, respectful environment aligned with the organization’s mission of restoring human connection.

What you will be doing:

- Speaking with homeless people and collecting data using our basic human dignity approach.
- Distributing educational pamphlets to the homeless people with survival resources they can use in their city, aswell as mental frameworks to stay strong and battle through this hard moment in thier lives.
- Distributing food, beverage, and clothing to those who dearly need it.
- Explore opportunities for donors to support our cause by providing donors with information, impact stories, and giving opportunities that connect to their philanthropic goals.

Qualifications:

- Bravery, Courage, and Emotional Intelligence
- A drive to understand the core issues behind homelessness in Canada and around the world.
- Strong skills in active listening, empathy,



and trauma-informed, person-centered communication, with the ability to build trust with individuals who may feel invisible or hesitant to seek help.
- Knowledge of homelessness, mental health, addiction, and poverty-related issues, along with an understanding of local community resources and support systems.
- Ability to work on-site in street and community environments, manage emotionally challenging situations, and maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, including maintaining accurate records and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and non-discriminatory practice, respecting the dignity and autonomy of people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.

Nice to Have:

- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Psychology, Social Services, or a related field; registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body is an asset.
- Experience in social work, community outreach, or related human services fields, including assessment, case management, and connecting individuals to housing, healthcare, and social supports, is an asset.
- First aid/CPR training, de-escalation or crisis intervention training, and a valid driver’s license are considered beneficial.
