This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Rankin Inlet only.

Reporting the Manager, Victim Services, the Information Referral Coordinator will be responsible for the development, administration, and delivery of services. The incumbent will provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive services for families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Working closely with Nunavut Victim Services (NVS) and community partners, this position will develop procedures for providing relevant information; and creating program awareness through outreach and public awareness initiatives.

This position will be the primary contact in Nunavut, between families seeking information and various internal and external agencies that may possess the information needed.

The Information Referral Coordinator will provide critical framework to gather and share up-to-date information; ensuring the varied information needs of the families are addressed and responded to in a coordinated, focused, and culturally safe manner. The coordinator will be responsible for the development and administration of the program; including data collection, data analysis, and information dissemination; mapping of practical supports and creating referral procedures.



The coordinator will organize and coordinate the efforts of stakeholders and community partners working with families of MMIWG e.g., RCMP, Public Prosecution Service Canada, Mental Health, and Community Justice employees.

This position provides direct, front-line support to victims of crime by offering practical assistance such as in-person court accomplishment, referrals to appropriate community services, and advocacy on behalf of victims to ensure their needs and rights are recognized and addressed. This position is a high stress, frontline position, the incumbent will be required to work closely with individuals experiencing trauma. Must be willing to attend briefing sessions and practice self-care to maintain personal health.

This position may require travel to communities in territory. Evening and weekend work may also be required.

Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized certificate in Social Sciences, Community Development, adult education, and two years professional experience in the human or social field. Knowledge of the Nunavut Victims of Crime Act, Child and Family Service Act, Criminal Code of Canada, and Duty to report. In-depth knowledge of Inuit culture, colonization and philosophy in Nunavut.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural setting are also considered assets.

As this is a term position until March 31, 2030, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
