Company Description: Pontem Group is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Fire Protection & Building Code Consultant to join our growing team. This role involves delivering building code analysis, fire protection strategies, and life-safety consulting services across a range of building types and project scales. The successful candidate will apply robust technical knowledge of the BC Building Code, Vancouver Building By-law, and applicable fire protection standards to develop practical, compliant, and cost-effective solutions.

This role also includes building permit coordination, client communication, and collaboration with architects, engineers, and municipal authorities. This position is ideal for a consultant with 3–5+ years of relevant experience who is capable of working independently while contributing to a collaborative technical team.

General

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Conduct building code and fire/life safety reviews of architectural and engineering drawings • Prepare comprehensive building code reports and technical documentation • Develop fire protection strategies and life-safety compliance solutions • Perform on-site field reviews to verify compliance with approved documents and applicable codes • Coordinate building permit submissions and respond to municipal review comments • Liaise with clients, design teams, contractors, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)



• Support fire modelling and egress analysis when required is an asset • Prepare proposals and assist with project scoping • Manage small to medium-sized projects independently (Senior level may lead larger projects) • Conduct on site review and meet with Construction Team and AHJ on site.
- Train and mentor junior staff on technical aspects.

Qualifications

- Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Applied Science • P.Eng designation (required) • CP designation is an asset but not required (support available toward obtaining designation) • 3-5 years’ experience in fire protection, building code consulting, or related construction industry experience • Valid driver’s license Technical Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of the BC Building Code and Vancouver Building By-law • Experience with fire protection system design • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel • Competency in AutoCAD • Experience with Bluebeam • Experience with fire modelling /egress modelling software such as Fire Dynamics Simulator is an asset but not required Core Competencies • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Detail-oriented with strong analytical ability • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with excellent time management and organizational skills • Professionalism in client and municipal interactions • Positive attitude and strong willingness to learn Benefits:
