Journeyman Service Electrician

Akai Electric is looking for an experienced Journeyman Service Electrician to join our Vancouver-based team.

This is a varied service position with approximately 50% commercial service and maintenance work and 50% residential service work. Our commercial work includes building maintenance and temporary power for established long-term clients, while our residential work includes service calls, troubleshooting, renovations and smaller projects.

Some days you'll be running your own service calls. Other days you'll be working alongside another service electrician on commercial sites or larger residential projects.

The Work

Our workload is approximately

Commercial Service & Maintenance – Approx. 50%
- Building maintenance and electrical repairs
- Temporary power installations and modifications
- Troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment
- Lighting, controls and distribution work
- Equipment connections and small installations
- Ongoing maintenance for established commercial clients
- Small commercial projects and alterations




- Working alongside other Akai service electricians on larger commercial jobs

Residential Service – Approx. 50%
- Electrical troubleshooting and repairs
- Residential service calls
- Renovations and alterations
- Panel and distribution work
- Lighting, receptacles and dedicated circuits
- Older-home electrical repairs and remediation
- Small residential projects
- Working with other electricians on larger residential projects when required

The position offers a good balance between working independently and working as part of a small team. Most jobs will initially be pre-estimated and scheduled for you, allowing you to focus on completing quality work and taking care of the customer.

As you become familiar with our systems and pricing, training will be provided in estimating and pricing service work. Our goal is to develop someone who can eventually assess a service call or smaller project, determine the required labour and materials, and confidently manage the job from start to finish.

What We're Looking For

Required

- BC Journeyman/Journeyperson Electrician certification
- Valid BC driver's licence
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills
- Experience with residential and/or commercial service work
- Ability to work independently and make good decisions in the field
- Good understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code
- Clean and professional workmanship
- Reliable and organized
- Comfortable communicating directly with customers and site contacts
- Proficient in spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate clearly with customers, coworkers and site contacts




- Able to document completed work and communicate job requirements clearly
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
- Valid BC driver’s licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract

Experience with the following is an asset:
- Commercial building maintenance
- Temporary power
- Service calls and troubleshooting
- Older residential electrical systems
- Reading drawings and electrical specifications
- Planning smaller projects
- Supervising or mentoring apprentices
- Estimating labour and materials

You don't need to know everything. We are more interested in finding someone with strong fundamentals, good judgement, a professional attitude and a willingness to learn.

Location

Our work is primarily located in Vancouver and nearby areas of the Lower Mainland.

Because this is a service position with regular travel between customer sites, the ideal candidate will live in Vancouver or within a reasonable commuting distance of the city.
