The Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics (LMPMG) is committed to enhancing patient care through the provision of consistently high quality education, support and on-going follow-up for patients using Subcutaneous Immune Globulin (SCIG) and C1 Esterase Inhibitor (C1-INH) blood products at home, for patients coming to the hospital for chemistry dynamic laboratory tests, and for patients donating bone to Tissue Bank.
Reporting to the Regional Manager; performs initial SCIG/C1-INH education and provides ongoing support for homecare patients; performs chemistry energetic laboratory tests; reviews tissue donor enrollment/consent forms and completes telephone interviews to determine if volunteers are eligible to donate tissue, consistent with Health Canada Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.
Two years recent, related experience in immunodeficiency and Hereditary Angioedema, IVIG/SCIG administration and C1 Esterase Inhibitor administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills And Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in intravenous therapy.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to adverse reaction to treatment and support the patient.
- Demonstrated knowledge of SCIG/C1-INH blood products.
- Demonstrated current knowledge of patient education techniques, methods and procedures for treatment of SCIG/C1 Esterase Inhibitor patients.
- Comprehensive knowledge of blood products and current transfusion practices.
- Ability to plan and organize workload, establish priorities and accomplish objectives.
- Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to deal with conflict situations, new or unexpected events.
- Ability to operate related equipment including a computer and related software tools.
- Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
