The Opportunity
We are seeking a knowledgeable, reliable, and hardworking Gardener to maintain the gardens and landscaped areas at several private residences and company properties. This role is responsible for planting and maintaining vegetable gardens, caring for perennial and annual gardens, and ensuring all assigned outdoor spaces remain healthy, tidy, and well-presented throughout the growing season.
This is a physically demanding, hands-on position requiring regular lifting, bending, kneeling, digging, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The successful candidate will be dependable, organized, and capable of working independently across multiple properties.
Your Day-to-Day
- Plant, maintain, and manage two vegetable gardens throughout the growing season
- Maintain gardens and landscaped areas at four private residences, a hangar, and the main Company office
- Plan, plant, and maintain annual flowerpots and containers at all assigned residences and properties
- Plant and care for annuals, perennials, shrubs, and other garden plants
- Prepare garden beds by digging, edging, cultivating, amending soil, and applying mulch
- Water, fertilize, weed, deadhead, divide, transplant, and prune plants as required
- Monitor gardens for pests, diseases, and other concerns, taking appropriate action when necessary
- Complete seasonal garden opening and closing activities, including spring cleanup and fall preparation
- Perform regular lawn care and landscaping duties, including mowing, trimming, and general property cleanup
- Remove leaves, weeds, branches, and other debris from gardens and landscaped areas
- Purchase,
pick up, transport, and unload plants, soil, mulch, gardening supplies, and other materials as required
- Safely operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and hand and power tools
- Clean and properly store tools, equipment, and supplies
- Adapt work priorities based on weather, seasonal requirements, and the needs of each property
- Work in accordance with all applicable health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment
- Perform other related gardening and groundskeeping duties as assigned
You Are a Good Fit If You Have
Required:
- Prior experience in a landscaping or gardening role
- Education or training in horticulture, landscaping, gardening, or a related field
- Experience planning and maintaining vegetable gardens
- Mechanical aptitude or experience performing basic equipment maintenance
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong physical ability to perform outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Ability to regularly bend, kneel, reach, dig, rake, shovel, and remain active for extended periods
- Ability to lift, carry, and position soil, mulch, plants, equipment, and other materials weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance
- Strong knowledge of basic gardening practices and seasonal garden maintenance
- Ability to recognize gardening needs and complete tasks with limited supervision
- Excellent time-management skills and the ability to balance multiple on-the-go projects.
- Dependable, trustworthy, and respectful when working at private residences
- Robust discretion and the ability to handle sensitive, confidential personal or professional information.
- Successfully passed comprehensive pre-employment third party testing requirements (Criminal Background Check) and any other requirements.
- Ability to use tools and equipment required to perform the work (e.g. hand and power tools, etc.).
- Verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt to last-minute changes and directions as provided.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service.
