Overview

Reporting to the Maintenance Lead, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for completing general repairs, preventative maintenance, unit turnovers, property inspections, and other maintenance activities across NPTBDC properties.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, have solid practical maintenance skills, and demonstrate professionalism and respect when working in tenants' homes.

Duties

- Understanding and perspective on housing related issues faced by Indigenous people.
- Complete general building and residential maintenance and repairs.
- Perform basic carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, and other minor repairs within the scope of the position.
- Complete work orders accurately and within established timelines.
- Assist with unit turnovers, including repairs, painting, fixture replacement, and general preparation of units.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and assist with property and building inspections.
- Identify maintenance concerns and report larger or specialized repairs to the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor.
- Maintain common areas, building interiors, and exterior property areas as required.
- Safely operate and maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials, and maintenance activities.
- Follow workplace health and safety requirements and NPTBDC policies and procedures.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with tenants, coworkers, contractors,



and community members.
- Respond appropriately to urgent maintenance situations when required.
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in residential, commercial, or property maintenance is preferred.
- General knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices.
- Experience with basic carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, and general repairs is an asset.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and complete assignments with limited supervision.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and accountability.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and working in various conditions.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check as required.
