TITLE: Manager, Sanford Apartments REPORTS TO: Director, Operations SUPERVISES: Sanford staff

Role Summary The Manager oversees the daily operation of the program and all aspects of program delivery, including the development and fostering of effective and collaborative relationships with program participants, staff, funders and related community services.

Under the direction of the Operations Director, the Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and management of the program, including client care, staffing, risk management, property management and administration, in accordance with the Residential Tenancy Act and guidelines provided by Vancouver Coastal Mental Health Housing Services, BC Housing, and the City of Vancouver.

Key Accountabilities

- Oversees the coordination of the physical and mental health of clients, including the safe distribution of medication, nutritional services and client record keeping, clinical reports and confidential documents. Liaises with client’s family members, medical staff, Mental Health Teams and other community health professionals and agencies. Ensures appropriate interventions as necessary, including crisis management, after-hours emergency mental/ physical or program consultation to front line staff, and critical incident debriefing as required.
- In alignment with the MPA Society Strategic Plan, works with the Director to develop,



implement and evaluate the program’s operational plan and annual goals, and implements new initiatives, programs and services. Designs and monitors desired outcomes and measurement indicators. Identifies and responds to areas of risk management to ensure that the program meets the requirements of an appropriate accreditation body. Evaluates specific program components and prepares regular reports and statistics as required by funders and MPA Society.

- In conjunction with the Operations Director, interviews, hires, orients and trains suitable staff. Provides leadership and direction to direct reports, fosters effective teamwork, and provides ongoing performance feedback including probationary and annual performance reviews. Identifies staff training needs and opportunities and provides or coordinates training. Participates in the disciplinary process and grievance process in consultation with the Director and Human Resources.

Recommends appropriate staffing levels and essential services levels. Solicits and orients volunteers and student placements for post-secondary institutions within established agency guidelines, policies and protocols.

Ensures Human

Resources procedures are followed and completes payroll and scheduling tasks.

- In collaboration with the Operations Director, reviews program requirements and provides details for the preparation of the annual budget. Monitors and addresses anomalies in expenditures according with approved budget limits. Works with the Operations Director to initiate and recommend budget adjustments and policy development.





Liaises with Sanford Housing Society to develop a 5 year capital plan and to review this annually, ensures ongoing upkeep of the designated project, and oversees the cleaning and sanitation plans of and property issues for the project.

- Represents the program at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile. Establishes positive working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization. Communicates with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization.
- Performs other related duties, participates in special projects, and addresses business issues as assigned by the Operations Director.

Qualifications A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science plus 5 years’ experience in mental health including 2 years at a supervisory level and 1 year in program development.

Experience in front line service delivery, crisis intervention, debriefing and support, conflict resolution and case planning.

Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation, mental illness and treatment modalities and new developments in mental health. Good understanding of community and social services in the Metro Vancouver area.

- Ability to define priorities and manage time effectively in dealing with multiple priorities
- Demonstrated knowledge of human resources practices in a union environment
- Highly developed critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills
- Robust interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Current First Aid/ CPR certificate
- Valid British Columbia driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- Training in crisis management
- Successful completion of a criminal record check
