Safe Harbour is one of Alberta’s most respected community-based recovery organizations, and one of the only detox programs in the country to blend Indigenous healing traditions with Western medical care. We support people facing homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, and housing instability — meeting them where they're at and helping them move toward stability and recovery.
We're looking for a Medical Detox Manager to lead our 20-bed Medical Detox Unit: a fast-paced, high-impact program where the work is real, the days are never the same, and the outcomes matter.
This is a hands-on leadership role at the centre of the action — not a desk job removed from the floor. You'll lead a team of nurses, case workers, and support staff through the day-to-day realities of withdrawal management: crisis response, complex cases, and everything in between. You'll also help shape how the program grows, working alongside physicians, hospitals, EMS, and community partners to keep clients moving safely toward treatment and recovery.
If you're energized by meaningful work, comfortable making calls under pressure, and want your leadership to actually change lives, this is that role.
- Run the daily operations of the Medical Detox Unit — safety, consistency, and quality of care come first
- Lead and support your team: nurses, case workers, and frontline staff, day in and day out
- Build a culture people want to work in — accountable, collaborative, and genuinely supportive
- Keep documentation, reporting, and compliance airtight (it's how we stay funded and trusted)
- Partner with physicians, hospitals, EMS, and community and Indigenous partners to keep care connected
- Help clients move forward — supporting transitions into treatment, housing, and recovery supports
- Step up in a crisis and keep a level head when things get intense
- Sit on our Senior Leadership Team and help shape where this program goes next
- An active, unrestricted Alberta license as an RN or RPN
- 3–5 years leading teams in healthcare, addictions, detox, mental health, or a similar high-acuity setting
- Sharp clinical judgment and the confidence to make good calls fast
- A calm, steady presence — even when things aren't calm or steady
- A trauma-informed, culturally secure approach to care
- Comfort with ambiguity, change, and the messiness of real operational leadership
Bonus points for experience with Indigenous communities, housing programs, correctional or emergency health, or transitional stabilization care. We know great leaders come from all kinds of backgrounds — nursing, psychiatric care, addictions, paramedicine, community health — so don't rule yourself out.
- Salary: $95,000–$110,000
- Comprehensive benefits + RRSP program
- Generous Vacation, plus 10 wellness/sick days a year
Pay: $90,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
