Salary A bursary of approximately $25,500 in the 1st year and $27,500 in the 2nd year for MSc, which will be paid in 3 equal installments each year.

Students currently enrolled or willing to enroll in an MSc program at the University of Calgary with a specialization in Earth Sciences, sedimentary geology.To be considered for RAP opportunities, students must be:1. Recognized as having full-time student status by the post-secondary academic institution at which you are presently enrolled (proof will be required) OR be a part-time student who is recognized by their academic institution as having a disability;

1. The minimum age to work in the province or territory where the job is located; and
2. Enrolled in an academic program that requires research as part of their curriculum.

Duties

- Establishing a stratigraphic framework for the study area based on well logs integrated with literature defined formations and members.
- Examine cores to identify and describe sedimentary facies.
- Sample the various facies in a systematic workflow and analyse for critical mineral content
- Examine thin sections to establish controls on critical mineral distribution in the different facies, e.g. depositional vs diagenetic, intra vs extra-formational sourced.
- Integrated core and well logs to map facies distribution and create maps of the facies distribution.
- Develop a comprehensive model for the origin and controls on the distribution of critical elements

Intent of the process The intention is to staff one (1) student position for the completion of a Master of Science degree (MSc) at the University of Calgary under supervision of Professor Per Pedersen; Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment.

Education

- Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Geology or Earth Sciences.
- Currently enrolled in, or accepted for admission to, an MSc program with a specialization in organic-rich shales geochemical studies at the University of Calgary.

EXPERIENCE

In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience or volunteer activities.
- Experience in planning and conducting research,
- Experience in working with a team of researchers or support staff,
- Experience in sequence stratigraphy and sedimentology,




- Experience in conventional and unconventional reservoir characterization.
