.NET Developer – Application Modernization

Position Title: .NET Developer

Location: Remote

Work Environment: Fully Remote

Reports To: CIO

Target Start Date: ASAP

Schedule: Standard business hours / typical professional workday

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced .NET Developer to help modernize an established business application that has been developed and enhanced over the past 10+ years.

This position will play a key role in reverse-engineering the existing platform, understanding and documenting business rules embedded within the application, and converting those rules into a modernized .NET platform using current frameworks, development practices, and technology.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with modern .NET, C#, SQL Server, and stored procedures, along with the ability to work independently in an existing codebase and translate legacy functionality into clean, maintainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyze and understand an existing .NET application and its underlying business logic.
- Reverse-engineer and document business rules embedded within legacy application code and database objects.
- Modernize and upgrade the existing platform using current .NET 6–8 frameworks and development practices.
- Develop and maintain applications using C# and .NET.
- Design, develop, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL Server databases and Stored Procedures.
- Translate existing business rules into modern, maintainable application functionality.
- Refactor legacy code to improve scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Develop and integrate APIs and application services as needed.
- Work with ORM technologies such as Entity Framework / Entity Framework Core.
- Perform unit testing, debugging, code reviews, and performance optimization.
- Use up-to-date AI-assisted development tools to improve developer productivity and code quality.
- Collaborate directly with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and validate functionality.




- Work independently to troubleshoot issues and make sound technical decisions within an existing application environment.
- Participate in source control, code management, and deployment processes.

Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of qualified .NET/C# development experience preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience with .NET 6, 7, and/or 8.
- Strong C# development experience.
- Strong Microsoft SQL Server experience.
- Hands-on experience developing, debugging, and optimizing SQL Server Stored Procedures — required.
- Strong understanding of relational databases, SQL queries, joins, indexes, transactions, and performance tuning.
- Experience with ORM technologies, preferably Entity Framework / Entity Framework Core.
- Experience working with and modernizing existing/legacy applications and codebases.
- Ability to analyze existing code and database structures to identify and document embedded business rules.
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with modern software development practices, including unit testing, source control, and code reviews.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude, CodeX/Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools.

Nice-to-Have Skills
- AWS experience, particularly EC2.
- Experience with GitLab and GitLab CI/CD.
- Experience with cloud-based application modernization.
- Experience with legacy application migration or modernization projects.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a hands-on .NET developer who is comfortable working inside an established application, figuring out how it works, identifying the business rules within the existing code and database, and then modernizing that functionality.

This person should be comfortable working independently, asking the right questions, and making technical recommendations while maintaining the existing business functionality during the modernization effort.
