This two-month seasonal contract position will be responsible for monitoring Quality Control and Food Safety at Hedges Apples and Townsend Farms. The role will be primarily based at the Hedges Apples location in Vanessa, Ontario and, also the Townsend Fruit Farms location in Simcoe, Ontario. As this is a new role, there will be a certain amount of flexibility with tasks required.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Control:

· Sampling and assessing maturity of fruit to determine harvest timing

· Sampling harvested fruits to determine manual picking quality is to specification

· Sampling apples at storage for final harvest maturity and assisting with storage allocation

Food Safety Administration:

· Canada GAP paperwork, data record keeping of specific farm activities including spray records, fertilizer records, production records and training sessions

· Prepares and completes verification of records for Canada GAP





· Acts as a leader in Food Safety Culture – provides guidance and recommendations to workers and management on maintaining a protected, sanitary environment to comply with all provincial, federal and certification standards

- Other administrative support as necessary

Qualifications: · College or university education in agriculture or science an asset

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail
- Ability to work well in a team environment and get along well with others
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent computer skills, including the ability to assist with problem resolution
