Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Orthoptist to join our Ophthalmology Clinic team at the Hotel Dieu Hospital site. Working within a highly specialized ambulatory care environment, you will support Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Adult Strabismus, and Neuro-Ophthalmology services, playing a critical role in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with disorders of the visual system and eye motility.
As a valued member of our multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with ophthalmologists, residents, learners, and allied health professionals while practicing independently within your professional scope.
What You'll Do
- Perform comprehensive ocular assessments, including history taking, visual acuity testing, refraction, sensory testing, pupil assessment, applanation tonometry, and extra-ocular muscle evaluations
- Interpret test results and provide recommendations for patient treatment and management
- Independently assess patients and contribute to care planning within Orthoptic Clinics
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists regarding medical and surgical treatment options
- Educate patients and families about ocular conditions and treatment plans
- Provide contact lens therapy and support specialized patient care needs
- Support the education and training of Ophthalmology Residents, medical students, and other learners
- Participate in a collaborative patient-centred care environment focused on clinical excellence
What You'll Bring
- Certified Orthoptist and graduate of an accredited Orthoptic Program
- Membership, or eligibility for membership, with the Canadian Orthoptic Council
- Current BCLS certification
- Recent related clinical experience
- Solid interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills
- Ability to work effectively with children, developmentally delayed patients, and their families
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to maintaining high clinical standards and ongoing professional development
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
