The ideal candidate for this position has experience working as a process or mechanical engineer in commercial, institutional, and/or industrial settings and is eager to expand capabilities. Added experience leading a design team and knowledge of the food and beverage sector would highlight an exemplary candidate.
Key responsibilities include the following:
- Work closely with designers, fellow engineers, technical specialists, and project managers to design optimized industrial and commercial facilities;
- Evaluate and interpret project requirements in order to develop creative and good value solutions to clients’ needs;
- Develop utility design basis through definition study of project requirements;
- Select process utility equipment and design utility systems to support process equipment operational needs. For example, utilities can include compressed air, process hot and cold water,
steam and boiler systems, compressed gases, etc.;
- Prepare process flow, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment layout plans, plant/process utility distribution plans and system details;
- Prepare mass and energy balances;
- Equipment procurement and bid evaluation;
- Assist project management with the development of project scope, budget and schedule for all process and utility related work;
- Help to coordinate the schedules and work of contractors for equipment installation;
- Be the lead engineer on specific projects and be the client’s main point of contact;
- Research engineering best practices; and
- Oversee equipment installations, and support start-up and commissioning as needed.
