Project Chief – Closures

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Chief – Closures to lead all Closures commodities across vehicle programs from concept through launch and beyond. This role will have end-to-end ownership (“cradle to grave”) of Door-in-White, Hood, Fender, Static & Dynamic Sealing, and Liftgate commodities.

The Project Chief will work closely with Product Planning, Product Design/Styling, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure programs meet technical, cost, timing, quality, and launch objectives.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead Closures commodities throughout the complete vehicle program lifecycle, from early concept through production and warranty.
- Partner with Product Planning and Product Design/Styling early in the program to guide vehicle designs toward feasible and cost-effective technical solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish appropriate cost, weight, and investment targets for new vehicle programs.
- Track and manage supplier sourcing, selection, and timing to ensure program milestones are achieved.
- Oversee the design release of components and systems for tooling and production.
- Develop and manage component and system testing plans, schedules, and deliverables.
- Identify potential program risks and develop recovery and mitigation plans to maintain timing and performance objectives.




- Provide significant supplier and assembly plant support during pilot builds, launch, and production ramp-up.
- Partner with suppliers and manufacturing teams to resolve technical, quality, timing, and launch-related issues.
- Following vehicle launch, actively manage warranty, quality, and customer issues related to Closures and exterior trim.
- Ensure effective communication and alignment across engineering, purchasing, suppliers, manufacturing, and program leadership.

Key Qualifications
- Experience in automotive engineering, product development, program management, vehicle closures.
- Strong understanding of automotive product development and launch processes.
- Experience working with suppliers, engineering teams, and vehicle assembly plants.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple commodities, timelines, and priorities in a rapid-paced environment.
- Experience with automotive closures, exterior trim, sealing systems, or related components is highly preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to suppliers and assembly plants.

Travel Requirements Travel to Michigan, supplier locations, and assembly plants is required.

Pay: $45.00-$46.90 per hour
