Position: Project Controller

Location: Edmonton, Canada

Work Arrangement: In office

Salary: $90,000 – $115,000/year

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Controller to support the financial management and performance of projects. In this role, you will work closely with Sales Managers, Project Managers, and Finance to monitor project financials, identify potential cost overruns, support invoicing opportunities, and provide accurate financial reporting.

Our projects vary significantly in size, scope, and complexity. You may work on everything from local purchasing for a U.S.-based project with colleagues in Canada to collaborating with project specialists to identify opportunities to improve margins and project profitability.

The ideal candidate is financially analytical, organized, comfortable working in a project-based environment, and able to communicate effectively with teams across different functions and locations.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Monitoring & Budget Management:

- Monitor the financial progress and performance of assigned projects.
- Track project budgets and identify potential cost overruns or financial risks early.
- Review project costs and financial results to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Finance to address financial discrepancies and risks.

Project Evaluations & Reporting:

- Prepare detailed project evaluations and financial analyses.
- Prepare periodic reports highlighting budget variances and deviations for management.
- Provide clear financial insights to support project and business decisions.
- Monitor project profitability and identify opportunities for improved margins.

Work-in-Progress Administration:

- Manage and support work-in-progress (WIP) administration.
- Review WIP status against project budgets on a weekly basis.
- Identify opportunities for invoicing and ensure billable work is properly captured.




- Coordinate with project teams to maintain accurate and timely project financial information.

Process Improvement & Communication:

- Identify opportunities to improve internal financial and project-control procedures.
- Participate in discussions with internal teams regarding process improvements.
- Help develop and implement more efficient project-control practices.
- Communicate financial information clearly to Sales, Project Management, Finance, and other stakeholders.
- Build strong working relationships across projects and locations.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent higher professional education in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics, Technical Business Economics, or a related field.
- Experience working in a project-based organization.
- Experience with ERP systems and work-in-progress systems.
- Knowledge of Acumatica ERP is preferred.
- Robust understanding of project financial management, budgeting, and cost control.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Stress-resistant and comfortable working with changing priorities and deadlines.
