TES Group Inc. – Project Manager – Engineered Solutions The Phelps Group is proud to represent the TES Group Inc on their search for their next Project Manager of Engineered Solutions.
The Project Manager – Engineered Solutions is responsible for the successful execution of engineering-driven projects involving the optimization, design, and supply of fired and unfired pressure equipment for heavy industrial and power generation applications. The role spans both pre-award (proposal and front-end engineering) and post-award (project execution and delivery) phases and serves as a central coordination point between engineering, vendors, fabrication partners, and clients.
This position supports TES Group’s core markets, including:
- Canadian oil and gas and energy infrastructure
- U.S. oil and gas markets
- Power generation projects in Canada and the United States
- Select international engineered-equipment opportunities
Project Management & Execution
- Managing the full lifecycle of assigned projects, from initial handover through engineering, procurement, fabrication oversight, delivery, and closeout
- Establishing and maintaining project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers
- Acting as the primary point of accountability for scope, cost, schedule, and quality performance
- Coordinating internal engineering resources and external consultants to ensure engineering deliverables meet contractual and technical requirements
- Ensuring projects are executed in compliance with applicable codes, standards, client specifications, and internal governance requirements
- Managing change control, including scope growth, schedule impacts, and cost recovery where applicable
Engineered Equipment Focus
- Fired and unfired pressure equipment optimization
- Waste heat recovery systems (including economizers and heat recovery equipment)
- Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems and related emissions-control equipment
- Other engineered equipment supporting heavy industrial and power generation facilities
- The role requires sufficient technical depth to challenge assumptions, understand design trade-offs, and make informed commercial and execution decisions in collaboration with engineering leads.
Proposal Development & Front-End Engineering
- Overseeing the preparation of technical and commercial proposals for engineered solutions projects
- Coordinating preliminary and conceptual engineering activities to support accurate scoping and pricing
- Developing execution strategies and win strategies aligned with client objectives, risk tolerance, and TES Group’s commercial goals
- Preparing project budgets, pricing models, and commercial inputs in coordination with engineering, procurement, and management
- Supporting client clarifications, technical reviews, and proposal presentations as required
Vendor, Fabrication & Subcontract Management
- Soliciting and evaluating vendor and subcontractor pricing for engineered equipment, fabrication, and specialized services including installation where required
- Managing vendor technical alignment, commercial terms, and delivery schedules
- Coordinating fabrication oversight activities, including shop inspections and quality surveillance where required
- Ensuring subcontracted scopes align with project requirements, schedules, and cost targets
Client & Stakeholder Interface
- Acting as the primary project interface with clients for assigned scopes
- Managing client communications related to progress, risks, changes, and deliverables
- Supporting client technical reviews,
design reviews, and milestone meetings
- Maintaining professional, solution-oriented relationships that reinforce TES Group’s reputation as a trusted technical partner
Commercial & Financial Accountability
- Managing project financial performance, including cost tracking, forecasting, and margin protection
- Identifying and mitigating commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle
- Supporting progress billing, change order preparation, and project closeout activities
- Ensuring accurate internal reporting of project status, risks, and financial outcomes
Health, Safety, Quality & Governance
- Ensuring projects are executed in alignment with TES Group’s health, safety, quality, and governance expectations
- Supporting a strong safety culture across engineering, fabrication, and field-related activities
- Ensuring quality requirements are clearly defined, implemented, and verified throughout execution
Qualifications & Experience
- Engineering degree or equivalent technical background (mechanical, chemical, or related discipline preferred)
- Demonstrated experience managing engineering-centric projects involving pressure equipment and industrial process systems
- Working knowledge of applicable pressure equipment codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, applicable jurisdictional requirements)
- Strong understanding of proposal development, front-end engineering, and commercial evaluation
- Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external vendors
- Solid written and verbal communication skills suitable for client-facing roles
