About LUS Brands
LUS Brands (“Love Ur Self”) is a Toronto-based DTC (direct-to-consumer) hair care brand that’s backed by Y Combinator, Sound Ventures, Comcast and other notable VCs and angel investors.
Since launching in 2017, we have shipped over 10 million bottles of our innovative hair care products to consumers with curly hair worldwide and earned thousands of 5-star reviews. Our mission is as simple as the products we create: to encourage people to genuinely love and accept themselves so that their unique beauty can shine through.
At LUS, success starts with the right mindset. We’re committed to bringing on individuals who see possibilities instead of limitations. We’re looking for team members who embrace change, take ownership of their results, and view challenges as opportunities.
We value resilience, self-motivation, and the determination to turn a “no” into a “not yet.” You bring energy, lead with a growth mindset, trust in your ability to create opportunities and take action to achieve your goals. If you’re passionate about quality assurance and continuous improvement, eager to lead, and driven to raise the bar on the products we deliver, we want to hear from you! About the Role In this key role, you will report to the General Manager and take ownership of quality across our products—from incoming packaging and raw materials, through production and filling, to the finished bottles shipped to our customers. You will set and enforce quality standards across our domestic and international supplier network and manage customer complaints through root-cause investigation and corrective and preventive action (CAPA).
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands cosmetics manufacturing and can translate a high quality bar into practical, measurable systems. You will also support product and regulatory compliance as LUS expands into new markets.
Your mission is to protect the quality and safety our customers trust LUS Brands to deliver with every single bottle.
You Will:
- Lead and develop our Quality Assurance function, directly managing a QC Inspector - setting daily inspection priorities, providing training, and overseeing performance.
- Set and enforce incoming quality standards for packaging and raw materials, coordinating inspections and specifications with suppliers (domestic and overseas) and driving corrective action on quality issues.
- Conduct supplier quality audits and oversee inspections using appropriate methodologies, including AQL sampling, to support quality control during production and assembly processes.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sourcing & Production teams to qualify new vendors and resolve recurring quality or supply issues at the root cause.
- Responsible for product and regulatory compliance, ensuring products, labeling and manufacturing practices comply with applicable Health Canada and FDA cosmetic regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and other relevant regulatory and quality standards, while maintaining accurate quality documentation and records for audits.
- Own the customer complaints process end to end - investigating quality-related complaints, identifying root causes, and driving corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plans.
- Develop, document, and continuously improve QA policies, SOPs, and inspection checklists to strengthen consistency and prevent recurrence of issues.
- Partner with Operations, Sourcing,
and Product Development to support new product launches and packaging changes with appropriate quality planning and testing.
You Have:
- 3 years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, or a related role, ideally within beauty, personal care, hair care, cosmetics, or a closely related consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturing environment.
- This is an in-office role located at our facility in Mississauga, ON, with regular local travel to neighbouring manufacturing facilities to conduct quality audits and inspections.
- Degree or diploma in Quality Assurance, Science, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of Health Canada and FDA cosmetic regulations, Positive Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and ISO quality standards.
- Demonstrated experience with root-cause analysis, CAPA processes, and supplier quality management.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google G-suite products, with strong knowledge of Excel.
- Strong analytical aptitude with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings and influence cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and excellent customer service.
