Registered Dental Assistant – Oral Surgery
About the Position
Northland Oral Surgery is seeking a skilled and dependable Registered Dental Assistant to join our surgical team. This position is ideal for an RDA who enjoys hands-on surgical assisting, works well in a rapid-paced clinical environment, and is committed to providing safe, compassionate care to both adult and pediatric patients. The position will be approximatley 24 hours over three days.
The successful candidate will work closely with our oral and maxillofacial surgeons, registered nurses, dental assistants, and administrative team. Previous oral surgery or surgical assisting experience is preferred; however, we value a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surgical rooms, instruments, equipment, and materials for procedures
- Assist the oral surgeon during surgical procedures, including extractions, wisdom teeth removal, dental implant procedures, biopsies, and other oral and maxillofacial surgeries
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and provide efficient chairside surgical assistance
- Maintain sterile technique and follow all infection prevention and control protocols
- Assist with patient preparation, positioning, surgical intake, and room turnover
- Provide reassurance and compassionate support to adult and pediatric patients
- Take panoramic radiographs when required
- Accurately document clinical information in the patient’s chart
- Review and reinforce postoperative instructions with patients and caregivers
- Clean, disinfect,
and restock surgical rooms between patients
- Assist with instrument processing and sterilization when required
- Work collaboratively with the surgeons, nursing team, and other clinical staff to maintain a safe and efficient surgical schedule
- Perform other clinical duties as required to support the surgical team
Qualifications
- Registered Dental Assistant certification
- Current registration and good standing with the College of Alberta Dental Assistants
- Current CPR certification
- Current Fit Test certificate
- Previous oral surgery or surgical assisting experience is preferred
- Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile technique, and infection prevention and control practices is an asset
- Experience with Dentrix is an asset
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional in a busy surgical environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A caring and respectful approach when working with patients and their families
- Reliable, punctual, and able to adapt to the needs of the surgical schedule
