The Opportunity

Pacline Overhead Conveyors is seeking a Sales Engineer who excels at combining technical knowledge with strong customer engagement and solution-based selling. Reporting to the Sales Manager, this new role is focused on developing new business, nurturing customer relationships, and translating client needs into compelling technical solutions.

You will act as the primary technical and commercial point of contact for customers, supporting them through the full sales cycle, from initial inquiry and needs discovery through proposal, negotiation, and handoff to project execution. While engineering design and project coordination skills are valuable, this role is first and foremost about driving revenue, building trust, and creating long-term customer partnerships.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being customer-facing, influencing buying decisions, and working closely with operations and engineering teams to deliver value-engineered solutions.

About the Role

Sales & Customer Engagement (Primary Focus):

- Serve as the primary customer-facing technical advisor, building strong relationships with new and existing clients across a variety of industries.
- Drive business growth by identifying, qualifying, and developing new sales opportunities through inbound leads, strategic follow-up, and targeted outbound outreach.
- Conduct discovery meetings with customers to understand operational challenges, technical constraints, and business objectives.
- Apply solution-based and consultative selling techniques to position Pacline conveyor systems as the preferred solution.
- Prepare and present technical and commercial proposals, tailoring recommendations to customer needs, budgets, and timelines.
- Lead pricing discussions, negotiations, and deal progression to successfully convert opportunities into booked orders.
- Maintain accurate opportunity tracking, forecasting, and customer activity records using CRM tools.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure proposals are technically sound, commercially competitive, and aligned with company standards.
- Review RFQs, customer specifications, and drawings to develop accurate and competitive quotations.
- Provide preliminary technical concepts and layouts to support the sales process.
- Leverage engineering knowledge to explain system capabilities, limitations, and value propositions in clear, customer-friendly language.
- Support handoff to project management and engineering teams after order award, ensuring a smooth transition.
- Other duties as assigned

Project & Process Collaboration (Asset, Not Core):

- Assist with project coordination as needed to support customer satisfaction and long-term relationships.

- Participate in post-project reviews to identify opportunities for design, process, and sales improvement.
- Identify opportunities to streamline sales processes, improve estimating accuracy, and enhance proposal effectiveness.

Qualifications & Requirements:

- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in a customer-facing technical role (e.g., Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, Technical Sales, Project Engineer with heavy customer interaction).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Solid written, verbal, and presentation skills, with proven experience engaging directly with customers.
- Experience developing quotations, proposals, or estimates in a technical or engineered-products environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.

Preferred / Considered an Asset:

- Previous experience in technical sales, solution selling, or consultative B2B sales.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and sales pipeline management.
- Working knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD 2D, SolidWorks) for reviewing or creating conceptual layouts.
- Understanding of conveyor systems, material handling equipment, or custom-engineered industrial solutions.
- Exposure to project management methodologies and cross-functional collaboration with engineering and operations teams.
- General knowledge of steel fabrication processes and mechanical systems.

Strengths We Value:

- Customer-first mindset with a natural ability to build rapport, credibility, and long-term relationships.
- Commercially driven, with the motivation to meet and exceed sales objectives.
- Strong listening and discovery skills, with the ability to translate customer needs into effective solutions.
- Confident, professional communicator who is comfortable presenting and negotiating with customers.
- Collaborative team player who works effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership over opportunities and outcomes.
- Continuous learner with interest in expanding both technical knowledge and sales expertise.
