Job Summary The Senior Associate, Assurance plays an important role within Roedl LLP’s Assurance practice. The position is responsible for coordinating and performing audits, reviews, compilations, and related advisory engagements in accordance with professional standards and firm policies.

The Senior Associate takes day-to-day responsibility for assigned engagements, working closely with Managers and Partners to plan and execute engagements, manage client relationships, supervise junior staff, resolve accounting and assurance matters, and ensure engagements are completed on time and within budget.

This role provides an opportunity to further develop the technical, client service, and leadership skills required for progression to Manager – Assurance.

Based in Waterloo or Toronto, Ontario, with hybrid flexibility and periodic travel to client locations. Occasional overtime and overnight travel may be required during peak periods.

Responsibilities

- Coordinate and perform audit, review, compilation, and related assurance engagements.
- Plan engagements, perform risk assessments, and develop appropriate audit approaches.
- Develop an understanding of clients’ businesses, accounting processes, systems, and controls.
- Perform substantive and analytical procedures and internal control testing.
- Prepare clear and well-supported working papers, financial statements, notes, and engagement reports.
- Review work prepared by junior team members and provide constructive feedback.
- Identify and research accounting, assurance, and financial reporting issues.
- Apply relevant professional standards, including CAS, ASPE, IFRS, HGB, and firm quality policies.
- Monitor engagement progress, budgets, and deadlines and escalate significant issues to Managers or Partners.
- Assist with complex accounting and assurance matters.




- Act as a primary day-to-day contact for assigned clients.
- Communicate with clients to obtain information, resolve questions, and manage outstanding items.
- Participate in planning, status, and completion meetings.
- Develop practical recommendations to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.
- Escalate significant client matters in a timely manner.
- Supervise and coordinate junior team members.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and feedback.
- Support staff development, onboarding, and internal training initiatives.
- Take ownership of ongoing technical and professional development.
- Stay current with changes in accounting, assurance, tax, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Assist with special projects and advisory assignments.
- Maintain confidentiality and the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA designation or active progression toward CPA.
- Approximately 3–5 years of progressive public accounting experience, including significant assurance experience.
- Experience taking day-to-day responsibility for assurance engagements or significant engagement areas.
- Experience supervising and coaching junior staff.
- Robust technical knowledge of CAS, ASPE, and IFRS.
- Experience preparing and reviewing working papers and financial statements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Sound professional judgment and attention to detail.
- Strong client service and relationship management skills.
- Ability to work independently while recognizing when consultation or escalation is appropriate.
- Proficiency with accounting and audit software and Microsoft Office.
