Overview The Senior Technologist leads the creation and review of technical drawings and construction documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with building codes, accessibility standards, and project specifications. They collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and project teams to clarify design intent and address technical details.
The Senior
Technologist develops detailed drawings, 3D BIM models, and supporting documentation, as well as conducts site visits to verify alignment with plans and resolve on-site issues. On select projects, the Senior Technologist will manage project tasks, workloads, and schedules for successful project delivery.
Education
Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology or a related field from an accredited institution.
Certification, or eligibility for certification, with a relevant association such as the Applied Science
Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) or the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC), is preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in architectural technology or a similar role.
- 5+ years of administering contracts during the construction phase.
- Experience managing project timelines and workplans to meet expectations and deadlines.
- Knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, compliance processes, and building science.
Skills
- Advanced proficiency in design software, particularly Revit. Skills in with Rhino, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite are an asset.
- Advanced project management skills, including scheduling and resource allocation.
- Advanced problem-solving skills to address technical design challenges.
- Advanced organizational and time-management skills.
- Advanced collaboration skills for coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and contractors.

Duties Technical Drawing, Documentation, and Compliance
- Lead the development of technical drawings and construction documents using Revit.
- Apply and interpret building codes, accessibility standards, and zoning regulations.
- Review and update drawings based on project changes, regulatory updates, or client feedback.
- Oversee quality control checks to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Allocate tasks to the Technologist, ensuring projects are assigned based on individual skill sets, workload capacity, and project deadlines.
- Manage records of drawings, revisions, and documentation.
- Prepare permit applications with detailed technical documentation.
- Provide technical reviews of projects in the early stages of development.
Project Management and Client Relations (as required)
- Plan and coordinate projects by developing and managing tasks, workloads, and schedules to ensure successful project delivery through all design phases.
- Support in presenting design concepts and proposals to clients, AHJ, and in public presentations, addressing feedback, managing expectations,
and maintaining strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Facilitate design reviews, coordinate with consultants, and refine design concepts while ensuring accurate and timely delivery of reports, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Monitor project progress, address potential risks, and adjust plans as needed to keep projects on schedule and aligned with objectives.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and project teams, attend construction kick-offs and resolve design-related issues during construction.
- Manage project close-out, addressing deficiencies, reviewing warranty items, archiving documentation, coordinating marketing materials, collecting client feedback, and summarizing lessons learned.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate interpretation and implementation of design intent.
- Research materials, construction methods, and building systems to guide the development of project specifications.
- Manage and chair regular coordination meetings with the consultant team.
Construction
- Perform routine site visits to assess progress, ensure general alignment with construction drawings, and address on-site challenges.
- Administer a construction contract with an advanced understanding of the role of the consultant.
- Review shop drawings for alignment with building codes, specifications, and architectural design drawings.
Leadership, Team Development, and General Responsibilities
- Mentor technologists, sharing best practices and technical skills.
- Support team training and career development.
- Foster teamwork and continuous improvement within the department.
- Implement quality assurance processes and documentation standards.
- Track and report work hours accurately and participate in required team meetings.
Pay: $80,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
