Role Description This is a full time, on-site Shop Production role focused on knife and saw sharpening at Tru-Cut Sharpening in Abbotsford, BC. The role involves setting up and operating sharpening and grinding equipment, including CNC machinery, to sharpen, maintain, and refurbish knives, saws, and related tooling. Day-to-day tasks include inspecting tools for wear, measuring and recording specifications, monitoring quality throughout the sharpening process, and performing routine machine cleaning and maintenance.
The position also supports production planning by organizing work orders, prioritizing jobs, and ensuring efficient workflow in the shop. Collaboration with team members, clear communication with supervisors,
and adherence to safety procedures are essential components of this role.
Qualifications
- Skills in production planning and basic production management to organize work orders, prioritize tasks, and maintain efficient shop workflow.
- Strong quality control focus, including attention to detail, accurate measurement, and commitment to meeting technical specifications.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members, following instructions, and reporting issues clearly.
- Ability to support and participate in training, including learning new equipment and processes and sharing knowledge with peers.
- Experience in a manufacturing, metalworking, or woodworking environment is beneficial; prior sharpening or CNC machine operation experience is an asset.
- Comfort with using hand tools, measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, gauges), and shop equipment while following safety protocols.
- Reliable, organized, and able to work on-site full-time, including standing for extended periods and handling moderate physical activity.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trades training related to machining, tooling, or industrial equipment is an advantage.
